The United States Golf Association is at Riviera Country Club this week as 312 players compete for the prestigious title of U.S. Amateur champion. First played in 1895, the U.S. Amateur is the USGA’s oldest championship and an open to amateur golfers with a USGA handicap index less than or equal to 2.4.
Play began Monday, August 14 with the first of two stroke play rounds, which determines the 64 players who advance to match play. The historic Riviera Country Club, an annual host of the PGA Tour, will test the players on its 7,284-yard layout.
And once again, Titleist is the overwhelming golf ball of choice. As Riviera Country Club hosts its third USGA championship, 236 players in the field of 312 are playing a Pro V1 or Pro V1x on the par-70 course, more than four times the nearest competitor with 54 and more than all competitors combined.
Titleist also leads the field in hybrids (72), and iron sets (107) with Vokey Design wedges leading the way in the approach, sand and lob wedges (485) category and Scotty Cameron putters (119) topping the putter category.
Congratulations to all participants who earned a spot into the prestigious championship and good luck to those who remain in match play!
