Titleist Tips: Getting Strategic on Long Par-3 Holes

This week at the PGA Championship, the golf course is a big part of the story. Bethpage Black is a massive, difficult track that will present a true test to the eventual winner.

One key to playing well at Bethpage that may not be talked about enough this week is the challenge presented by the Black Course's par-3 holes. The four par-3's are well protected by elevation, undulated putting surfaces, cavernous bunkers and LENGTH — like everything else at Bethpage Black, the par-3's are big. (Hole measurements from the standard markers: No. 3 - 230 yards, No. 8 - 210 yards, No. 14 - 161 yards and No. 17 - 207 yards.)

Long par-3's present distinct, intimidating challenges, so for some advice, we reached out to Titleist staff member, Justin Parsons, who shares some keys and a strategic, mathematical approach that can help you keep big numbers off the scorecard on those long par-3's.
