Cam Davis Trusts Titleist From Tee to Green Secure His Second PGA TOUR Victory at the Rocket Mortgage Classic

PGA TOUR | Rocket Mortgage Classic

Strong in the clutch, Titleist Brand Ambassador Cam Davis played his final two holes in 1 under par – getting his Pro V1 golf ball up-and-down on Nos. 17 (birdie) and 18 (par) – to win by one shot on a gusty day at Detroit Golf Club.

  • Gaming a full bag of Titleist equipment, Davis gained more than eight shots on the field tee-to-green (+8.674/4th), with more than seven of them coming on approach shots (+4.352/12th) and around the green (+3.052/9th).
  • He gained over three more strokes on the green (3.677/19th), using a Scotty Cameron TourType Special Select Masterful tour prototype putter that he put in play for the first time last week at the Travelers Championship.

SIX WINS IN A ROW FOR TITLEIST GOLF BALL PLAYERS

DAVIS ON HIS PRO V1 GOLF BALL

  • “The Pro V1 was the first high quality ball that I ever used. I mean, after I got through the stage of just being happy to find a good quality ball in the trees as a junior, this is the first ball that I really kind of started using. I used it because Adam Scott was the guy when I was growing up (in Australia), and he was a Titleist guy. But ever since then, it’s just been the feel and the flight – it's just been what I've been used to ever since, and I love it.”
  • “[The consistency] is through the bag, from the feel of striking a putt out of the middle, to spin on the wedges, to being able to control your ball flight and distance with the irons, all the way up to getting the most reliable ball flight out of your driver to keep the ball in play. I mean, you're hitting it on every shot, so you want it to be reliable on each shot.”

DAVIS WINS WITH VOKEY SM10 WEDGES, L GRIND LOB WEDGE

  • Cam Davis' Vokey wedge setup consists of three NEW SM10 wedges: a 52.12F gap wedge, 56.14F sand wedge and WedgeWorks 60L lob wedge that helped him gain over three strokes on the field around the greens (+3.052, 9th).
  • The L Grind is a common choice for players who want a low bounce lob wedge with heel, toe, and trailing edge relief.
  • Its leading edge sits close to the ground and works well on tight or firm lies, in a square or open position.
  • Compared to other low bounce options in the Vokey lineup, the L Grind offers slightly more protection from excessive digging.
  • “The L Grind is for the player looking for the versatility of a low bounce wedge,” said Aaron Dill, Vokey Tour Representative. “It's really the perfect balance of ‘I want versatility, but I also want a little forgiveness to go with it.’ The forward bounce on the L helps reduce dig, but players are still able to open it up and slide under the ball easily. It's a great option for players looking for a little bit less bounce.”
  • Reigning Champion Golfer of the Year Brian Harman as well as Max Homa, Sungjae Im, Emily K. Pedersen, J.T. Poston and Albane Valenzuela are among those players also gaming the L.
  • Read more about L Grind here: https://mediacenter.titleist.com/en-US/237473-vokey-wedgeworks-launches-2024-l-grind
  • With Davis’ victory, six of the last seven PGA TOUR events have been won by a player gaming at least two Vokey wedges:

LET | VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open

Titleist Brand Ambassador Alice Hewson closed out her second LET victory in dramatic fashion, making eagle on No. 17 and birdie on No. 18 to post a Sunday 65 and force extra holes at 11 under.

  • Another birdie on 18 in the playoff finished the job for Hewson, who now jumps to No. 5 in the LET Order of Merit.

HEWSON’S MOVE TO PRO V1x

  • In 2023, Hewson worked with the team at Titleist to dial in her golf ball model.
  • She had previously been playing Pro V1, but through a Tour level ball fitting, she found that the added spin and height from Pro V1x would give her more control and stopping power with her approach play.
  • “It’s made such a big change to my game,” said Hewson last summer on her ball model change.
  • Hewson also gamed a TSR2 driver, TSR2 fairway, TSR1 hybrid, blended set of T-Series irons and three New Vokey Design SM10 wedges.
