Major Triumphs for Park and Toms

In golf’s biggest tournaments, when it means the most, the world’s best players continue to rely on Titleist golf balls. This past weekend, that trust was rewarded in the form of major victories for two players who each teed up a Pro V1x golf ball.

On the LPGA Tour, Sung Hyun Park (Pro V1x) claimed the second major title of her career, birdieing two playoff holes to capture the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship.

It was an emotional victory for the normally reserved Park, who broke down in tears after outlasting her two playoff competitors, one of whom was So Yeon Ryu (Pro V1). All three players finished regulation at 10-under 278, three shots clear of their nearest competitors.

“This is my first time feeling this kind of emotion,” Park said after raising the trophy at Kemper Lakes Golf Club. “I couldn’t help it. This is my second major win in two years and I still can’t believe what I’ve done. I’m really happy.”

This marks the fourth career LPGA Tour win for the 24-year-old Park, whose first major came at last year’s U.S. Women’s Open.

Park and Ryu shared LPGA Tour Player of the Year honors last season and they now stand at No. 6 and No. 5, respectively, in the Rolex World Rankings.

Meanwhile, on the PGA Tour Champions, David Toms (Pro V1x) celebrated his maiden victory on one of the tour's biggest stages, relying on his strengths - a clutch short game and one of the smoothest putting strokes in the game - to win the U.S. Senior Open Championship at The Broadmoor Golf Club in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

In the final round, Toms took the lead for the first time with a birdie at the 16th hole. He then followed up a difficult par save at No. 17 with a routine two-putt for par at the last, good for a 3-under-par 277 total and a one-shot marking of victory.

The victory marks the second major for Toms, who won the 2001 PGA Championship in addition to his twelve other PGA Tour titles.

“It’s been a long time (since) I held a trophy,” said Toms, who last won at the 2011 Crowne Plaza Invitational. “To do it in a USGA event is even more special. I didn’t really have the patience for U.S. Opens early in my career. I get better at it as my career went on. Never won one, but I got close. To finally have one, just means my patience is probably where it needs to be, finally.”
