National Triumph for Oosthuizen in South Africa

Longtime Titleist golf ball loyalist Louis Oosthuizen (Pro V1x) captured his first South African Open by a record-tying six shots, carding a 4-under-par 67 in the final round that included an eagle and five birdies. Oosthuizen posted an 18-under 266 total at Randpark Golf Course in his native Johannesburg to seal the emotional European Tour victory.

This marks the 14th victory for Oosthuizen as a professional, whose resume includes the 2010 Open Championship at St. Andrews. He last won at the ISPS HANDA Perth International in 2016.

“When the last putt dropped it was such a relief knowing I put my name up with greats that have won it,” Oosthuizen said. “Any South African wants to win the SA Open.”

Fellow South African Charl Schwartzel (Pro V1x,) was among three players who secured their places in The 148th Open after qualifying this week.

Schwartzel tied for third place, and earned one of the spots for The Open due to his higher position in the Official World Golf Ranking. This was the second event in The Open Qualifying Series which gives golfers around the world opportunities to earn their place at Royal Portrush.

Titleist was the golf ball of choice at the South African Open, with 73% of players (174 players in the field of 240) relying on a Pro V1 or Pro V1x golf ball, more than five times the nearest competitor with 13% (31 players) and more than all competitors combined.

Titleist was also the overwhelming field favorite in the hybrids (38) and irons (82) categories. Vokey Design Wedges topped the approach, sand and lob wedge (363) category.

Congratulations, Louis!
