Earlier this week, one of our favorite instructors, Titleist Staff Professional Trillium Rose, was on-site for a major preview and to get a feel for the specific challenges that players will face at the 74th edition of the U.S. Women's Open. The Country Club of Charleston, a Seth Raynor masterpiece in the South Carolina Low Country, is hosting its second major, following the rave reviews the 6,776-yard, par-71 layout received in 2013, when it welcomed the U.S. Women's Amateur Championship.
As Trillium details in the video tip above, this course will demand sound strategic thinking and precise shot-making from the elite players who hope to come out on top this Sunday evening.
Enjoy these insider tips from Trillium and see how they can help your game. Please also be sure to check out her Instagram page and explore Trillium's website for more instructional content, as well as Titleist social media channels.
Thanks, Trillium!

WHAT TO WATCH FOR
The golf course at the Country Club of Charleston dates back to 1925 and was designed by noted course architect Seth Raynor. Raynor studied under the tutelage of the "father of American golf course architecture", Charles B. MacDonald, and many of his courses feature template holes, which were modeled after famous holes in the British Isles. The firm, sandy terrain at Country Club of Charleston is particularly well-suited to the ground game and was a perfect palette on which Raynor could create holes that pay tribute to the strategic designs found in the home of golf.
As you tune in this weekend, some keys holes to take note of include:
- No. 11 – Redan (Par-3, 177 yards | modeled after No. 15 at North Berwick)
- No. 12 – Road Hole (Par-4, 356 yards | modeled after No. 17 at The Old Course at St. Andrews)
- No. 14 – Knoll (Par-4, 347 yards | double-plateau green modeled after No. 15 at North Berwick)
- No. 16 – Lion's Mouth (Par-4, 464 yards | gaping bunker that divides the green front, center)
Enjoy the National Championship!
