First I'd like to say thank you to Titleist for hosting the ball fitting event today at Twin Lakes Golf Course here in Virginia.
A ball fitting is something I've wanted to do for a while and was thrilled when I found out that Titleist was coming to my local course. Today's weather was perfect, 84 with a slight wind.
I got to the course a bit early and after a nice warm up I met Patrick who was one of three Titleist fitters. We started by talking about my game, my current ball, what I'd like to get out of the fitting and any feel preferences. I've been playing Titleist golf balls since the '90's and while I've tried other balls I keep coming back to Titleist.
I started by hitting 50 yard wedge shots. Both balls were flying at the same trajectory and I preferred the feel of the Pro V1X, the V1 felt a little dead to me but not bad.
Next we moved on and I started hitting 7 irons. I'm looking for this club to go about 160 and both balls were flying around 161 or so. The V1 definitely felt better than the X and was spinning better. The X was averaging 8300 and the V1 was averaging 7900. Both balls would have worked but I liked the feel of the V1 better.
We ended with the driver. I'm not the best driver of the golf ball and know that my tendency to hit down, I average about a degree down on my driver may cost me some distance. Again I liked the feel and flight of the V1 even though both balls were really close.
After this we talked a bit about the numbers and we agreed that the V1 would be the better ball for me. Overall it was a great experience and I would recommend everyone attemp to do a ball fitting at some point. Now to hit the course and dial in my distances.
