    I recently purchased 712 AP2 irons and after playing a few rounds they felt heavy. I had them pulled apart and found brass and lead shaft weights in the end of the shafts. The weights are 4 t0 10 grams and 1 was in each shaft 4-pw. Is this a normal procedure in making a Titleist club?

    Hello William,  We do use tip weights to balance out swingweight within the set, but do not have any weights (or lead weights at all) heavier than 6 grams and these are used for very lightweight shafts, such as graphite or light steel that tend to swingweight too light.

    Thank you. The AP2 set  I bought from the PGA Tour Stop store at The World Golf Village in St. Augustine, FL and they have DG R300 shafts in them. I paid over $1,000 with tax for them and I'm very disappointed in them because I have to have them re-shafted or pull out the plugs and have a C-7 swing weighted club. After paying $1,000 for 7 clubs and then not getting the performance and quality Titleist claims is more than just disappointing.

    Hi William,  Can you call us with your serial number? 888-TITLEIST (888-848-5347)  The PGA Tour Stop is a very good shop and if you requested a lighter swingweight with your clubs, we would have built them as light as possible.  With a DYG R300 at standard length and a stock grip, the lightest we can build an AP2 set is about D1.

    I purchase from this same retailer and will admit that the staff will sell floor models without any consultation at all.  I understand they need to evacuate inventory but when buying clubs at $1k they should at least suggest fittings - even telling you to take the floor models to the fitter and having them customized would be expected.  

    None the less, I shop there because they are helpful when you ask and prices are as good as eBay at times.

    Hello,

    I have a set of this years AP1 714's that I will be re shafting with KBS C-Tapers.  Would you recommend Lead or Brass Weights?

    Also, I know you set factory clubs at D1, which seems a little light and I'm thinking of D3 on irons and D-5 for my Volkey wedges.

    I'm 6'2" 220lb with 98-100 swing speed and very strong follow through, would this be a good recommendation?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    I have always preferred the brass tip weights. I used to play my irons at a D3, PW-D4, SW-D5 & LW-D6. My friend is your size and plays the AP2 irons at D4 with midsize grip. I would recommend getting some lead tape and testing your current 6 iron to see what swingweight you prefer, then rebuild irons to that spec. You would also want to be mindful of fatigue during your round if built too heavy.

    Sorry for the bad experience.  Sounds like you bought a set in stock from the store, essentially off the floor.  Did you get fitted outdoors and try other shaft combinations?  80% of golfers buy sets out of stock when these sets don't fit 90% of golfers.  Titleist strongly promotes getting fit and offers a decent variety of stock shafts to be fit for the one price.  Within the stable of stock shafts and flexes, you get custom fitted clubs for the same price as off the rack.  Unfortunately, they also compete with suppliers that do promote off the rack sales in large retailers.  A fact in the American market place.
     
    My own experience, being senior and LH, was that only a Titleist Advanced Fitting Center had the options to fit me.  It is bad enough what is available for fitting RH at a large retailer, but for LH, the entire process is guessimating/extrapolating what will work based on hitting into a net with the one LH head.  My experience at an AFC wokred so much better than the stock sets from large retailers.
