1.) I presently play AP2-712 irons. I use Golf Pride New Decade Multi-compound grips, in midsize. I am about to switch out a few longer irons for the new AP1-714 irons with XP95 shafts. The SW on the AP1-714s is shown on the Titleist site as D1. However, since I will be adding heavier grips, I assume that will bring the swing weight down to a D-0 or less. What swing weight should I order the new AP1-714s so that I end up with a D-1 (or even D-2) once I switch to the midsize grips?

2.) My present AP2 712s are bent 1* up. I will obviously have the new AP1-714s bent to 1* up. I know that Titleist casts the AP1s in a normal lie and also a 2* up lie. So which head would be best for bending to 1* up? Is it better to start with the neutral cast lie and bend up 1* or start with the 2* casting and bend down 1*?  Just thinking about resale in a couple years?

    3) Since the New Decade grips--in midsize--are not offered by Titleist, even as an upgrade, I would like to order New Decade regular grips (which are offered as an upgrade), but not have them installed. Rather, just ship them separately along with the irons. I will trade them out for midsize at my proshop and have them installed there. I did that with my AP2s when I originally ordered them a couple years ago. I assume you can adjust the swing weight so they end up at D-1 or 2 once I have the midsize grips installed. The point being that it is not necessary for you to actually install the grip in order to make the swing weight as specified. Is this correct?

    1.  We offer the New Decade mid size in the Red/Black and you can order and specify D1 swingweight with those grips

    2.  We use standard lies and bend 1° upright.

    3.  When you specify a swingweight with grip in the box, they swingweight with a standard weight grip.  Since we do offer the New Decade mid size, you can have the clubs built with that grip and specify D1 swingweight.

  3. Cathi is on top of it as usual!

Thank you Cathi. I ordered the irons on Saturday at Golf Galaxy (before receiving your above reply). They told me I could get the GP Multi-compound in a midsize red/black, which I did not think was an option. So, that's what I ordered. However, I had the grips supplied uninstalled in the box so I could switch them out for white/black midsize at GG to match my other irons. I don't think any swing weight was specified. Should I get in touch with Titleist, give them the order number, and specify D1? Or should I call GG and have them do it?

Thanks so much for your help.

Hi Doug,  Please contact GG this morning and see if they can add the swingweight to the notes - with the grip in the box, ask for D2

Cathi, again, thank you. I did go to GG per your suggestion, to request they make an addendum to the order (which had already been sent to Titleist earlier in the day). They emailed the new info while I was there, though a confirmation of receipt was not given to me. Hopefully it finds the right people and can be included in the club-building instructions.

I checked with our nationals team and they did get the swingweight instructions from your golf galaxy store, so you are all set.
  8. Cathi, will a 2 degree upright be bent from a neutral head too, or is there a cast head this is 2 degree upright?  That might make a slight difference in the head pointing a bit left from bending?

    Thanks,

    John

Hi John,  You can have your pro shop set up a swingweight inspection and we can take apart the clubs and see if any swingweight can be added.  As far as the 2 up heads, we would probably use a standard head and bend it 2 up, but there is no difference in the head or face angle.  The MSRP to take the clubs apart and reswingweight them would be $9 per club.  Please note, with graphite, due to the light weight, they don't have as many options for making the heads heavier, so they may not be able to swingweight it heavier than your current swingweight, but they will try.

  10. Cathi, I ordered a set of AP1 714 with the TT XP 95 shaft today with 2* upright.  Does this have any effect on the standard lofts for each club?  I assume they will be at the specified loft in 2* upright, but I don't know for sure.  I appreciate the help you guys provide and its one of the reasons I have all Titleist clubs in my bag.  I currently play the AP2 712 and look forward to transitioning to these new irons and hope it will be an easy learning curve.  I am keeping the AP2s because they are an awesome club with the best feel I've ever experienced in an iron.  If I truly miss the feel, I guess I can send them to you and have another shaft put in that set.  What do you do with the shafts that you swap out it I have them re-shafted?  That being said, I have all the confidence that this new set of AP1s will be what I really need to improve my game and shave a few strokes of my game and handicap.

    Thanks again,

    John

    Hi John,

The lofts will be unchanged when you change the lie angles.  If you request to save a shaft, we will return the shaft to you (note that the reshaft will take a little longer), otherwise they cut and destroy the shaft when it is removed.

    Dear Cathi,

What would the swing weight be for a set of 714  AP 1s that are 1/2 inch longer than standard with Kuro Kage 65 graphite shafts?  Also I added the 48 *  714 AP1  wedge with the same specs - what should the swing weight be?

    Thank you.

Swingweight should be D4 at 1/2" long Kurokage shafts on 714 AP1 irons including the GW.  The range is D3-D5 -  specify swingweight on your order if you want a certain swingweight within that range.

I ordered mine with a D-2 swing weight from my pro shop because the titleist spec sheet  said the standard swing weight for standard length and Kuro kage 65 shaft was D-1.   I didn't realize the swing weight would increase that much and my club pro wasn't any help in guiding me.  I actually like an iron that gives you  a more weighted feeling in the clubhead.  Guess I should have asked you this question bewfore I put my order in and received my clubs.

Is there anything I can do to increase the swing weight now that I have the irons?  Thank you

  16. Hi Cathi,

I just placed an order for a new set of 716 AP2 irons this past week and was just wondering what the swingweight would be with +1/2" DG X100 AMT shafts and the standard tour velvet grip +2 Wraps?

    Thanks for your help.
