710 vs. 714 model AP2 Irons

    I currently play 710 model AP2 irons (for the last 3 1/2 years). My handicap index is 8.0, I'm 64 years old and play 4 - 5 x/week.  Last year switched out the Dynamic Gold R300 shafts to Dynalite Gold XP R300 shafts and am happy with the switch.  However, I'm wondering if I would see significant performance improvement ( higher 5 and 6 irons, flatter launch short irons) if I upgraded to the 714 model AP2 irons (5-PW,W).  Do the technology changes warrant the switch to 714?

    Thanks for the question. Glad to hear you like the new XP R300's so much. 

    The answer to your questions is yes. The new 714's are designed with a more progressive flight throughout the set. The longer irons are easier to het up in the air, while the shorter irons have been designed to produce a more penetrating flight.  Not to mention, the new 714's are even more forgiving and have received great reviews on their newer, cleaner look.

    Thanks so much for the info.  It's very helpful.  Now to find a reliable fitter in my area who can fit me into a proper shaft.  It's hard to find a fitter who has a launch monitor or Trackman, let alone who knows how to interpret the data anymore than I do.  It's been hard to find a facility with good fitting capability in the Middlebury/Elkhart/South Bend Indiana area.  I guess I'm spoiled from the last several times I was fitted at Miles of Golf in Ypsilanti when I worked in Ann Arbor, MI.  I've since retired and moved back to Middlebury.

    Are you aware of anyone in my area with a good track record?

    ted: I play 712 AP1 irons fitted at Miles of Golf. I recently moved to the Chicago area and when I get fitted for my new 714 irons I will hop on I-80 East (tollway) to the US 23 exit and head north to MOG. Their expertise and facility are second to none. Suggest you do the same, since you are even closer. Dave D

    Thanks! thanks, Dave, for the suggestion.  Actually, I am thinking of heading up there for a fitting.  They really do have a great fitting facility with top notch fitters.  Thanks again!
