I purchased a set of AP1 714 with steel shafts and thinking seriously of changing the shafts to graphite. Think I made a mistake not buying graphite originally. I'm a senior playing only a little over 2 years shooting 100-107. My previous clubs were cally with graphite shafts. I know I have lost distance with the steel shafts and don't see any real difference in accuracy with the steel. Also don't feel as comfortable and confident with the steel. Would like to hear some thoughts about this..... Thank You

I'm very similar in age range/experience. I have AP1 712 with the GD A-flex shaft and I really find it too soft - I'll avoid using the PW if I can use my 48 Vokey GW with the standard wedge shaft. I am mixing a business trip with a serious business time at Manchester Lane (best reason to go to New Bedford on business...). I'm leaving all options on the table for those folks to fit me, from keeping the current to reshafting some to a new set. Will post the results in 2 weeks after the fitting. Refitting all the clubs in graphite will be in the $75 range per club, so you may want to work with a pro to see if you only need to reshaft the 6 or 7 irons and longer.

    Alan -

The AD 65 A-flex was the wrong shaft.  I tried the TT XP 95 and the Nippon 970, and through the 8I, they both were an improvement over the A-flex in my 912.  The Kuro Kage 85 worked better in the 6I and was close in the 8I.  I wasn't feeling the head of the club with the AD 65, but my pattern tightened up a lot with the heavier shafts, and the distance didn't really change.  Same with the 24 and 27 H with the Diamana S+72 g over the the 910 Ilana.

Also had a wedge fitting, and my issues with the PW and the A-flex were the same.  The PW was also at 6000 RPM back spin and the 48 Vokey was at 9500 RPM.  So in my case, I needed a heavier shaft and a Vokey instead of a PW.  Your results may differ.

You may want to work on your game before buying another set, but a good fitter outdoors can look at  your longer clubs and maybe you can swap the 4-7 Irons with graphite shafts if they improve distance and accuracy.  It may run 70-90 a club to reshaft to graphite but is still a lot less than a new set.

    Good luck!
