AP1 shaft choice

  1. I play to ~15 handicap with a high 80s-mid 90s swing speed and will soon purchase a set of AP1s with graphite shaft (due to severe tendonitis/nerve entrapment causing hands to go numb with steel shaft). I will be upgrading from a set of png i15 with stiff flex (83g & 2.6 deg torque).

I was fit in the t-75 shaft (stiff) since it was the only graphite shaft available in the cart. When I asked about the t-85 shaft, I was told that nobody uses that shaft, even though it is a no-charge change. Other than minimal weight difference and lower torque due to the shaft weight, are there any playing differences between the t-75 and t-85 shaft?

My main concern is will I mess up the swingweight by going to a heavier shaft (my pings are D2 since they are 1/2" long and 3 deg upright - my AP1 numbers were 2 degrees up and 1/2" long)?

  2. The swing-weight on a set of AP1s with T75 stiff flex 2 degrees up and 1/2" long would be within the D2 range.  The T85 shaft may produce a slightly lower trajectory with less spin but this would be dependent on a player's swing type.  The T85 plays 1.5 swing-weight points heavier than the T75 but you would be able to order the T85 stiff flex 2 degrees up and 1/2" long and request the set be built targeting a D2 range.

    Thanks,
