so , I just bent a set of 690s about 5deg. flat for a friend and he is not happy with the job. I use a non marring bar and I even apply a little bit of heat to the hosels to warm up the metal so I bends a bit easier. so basically, short story long, I left stretch marks on the hosel ( on the face side) . I applied slow even pressure to bend them, but I still left stretch marks on them. all of my vokeys have stretch marks too (I like flatter wedges). is this common when bending irons? most of the clubs except for the 9 and pw are under 59deg. maybe I am just bad at tweaking irons

Yes, any bending over a couple of degrees will typically leave stretch marks. It would be very difficult, if not impossible to bend a set 5° and not leave stretch marks.  Very few club builders would take that chance on bending it that far considering the age, the chroming and the possibility of cracking.

Thank you for the reply cathy.  It made me feel better!  I really thought i screwed up when i bent them but thats just how metal reacts to extreme stress.  At least the hosels didn't break like they do on other wedges!

    Cathi ;)

  5. Yeah, 5* is pushing it. They may seem fine now but make sure you keep an eye on them because they could crack. Or, during your swing, fly off at impact. Hope all works out for you.
