Can I change the loft on the driver?   What can I do to correct the problem.   I have a Graphite Design S YS6 shaft on the club.   What are your thoughts on helping me hit the ball sqare?

    william,

"thin kind of topping the driver" suggests to me that you are hitting the ball real far on the upswing.  i'm no swing expert, but if i were you, i'd try 2 quick things:

    1) first, make sure the ball isn't teed up too high.  equator of the ball should be even with the top of the driver head.  you could tee it up just a smidge higher if you like.

    2) ball position.  make sure the ball isn't too far up in your stance.  if it's on the instep of your left foot (assuming you're right handed) and you're still thinning it, move the ball position back maybe an inch.

there could be other issues like swinging way from the inside, etc. but try those two quick fixes first.  good luck!

    - fred

Thanks Fred, how would I best eliminate swinging way from the inside? I have been lining my stance on the inside of my left heel. I will follow your suggestions.

Third fix - and we don't know which apply, is to make sure your weight transfer to the front leg is good. With weight on the back foot at contact (reverse tilt) with irons, fat and tops are common. With driver, the more likely event is the swing reached bottom further back in your stance and is already arcing up far behind the normal swing path. Moving the ball back in the stance would be easy correction, but w/o the weight shift, you'd be losing distance as well. There is a Titleist app for Apple products to make it easy to compare, but any smart phone with a movie mode can capture if you have your weight over which leg.

The weight transfer could be an issue. How do I personally try to figure out and fix?

    William,

Is this something that you just started experiencing or have you always hit the ball thin?  To me, it sounds like you are swinging over the ball, but there could be any number of things contributing to the problem.  Fred's advice for teeing the ball is a good starting point, but if you continue to have problems you should seek advice from a professional swing instructor.  He/She could watch you hit shots and they would then be able to see what is causing your problem and help you correct it.

    Good Luck!

Would over swinging also be by trying to swing to hard?
