  1. So I've found out I need to go a 10 or so yards longer to gap distance between my fairway wood and first iron. So I'm giving some thought to just changing the club head from current 19* 913H and buying just a 17* 913H. I think the only difference I would end up with if I did this was my shaft would be 1/2" shorter than had I bought an entire new club with standard length. The reason I think I could do this is that the current club head and shaft works very well for me and a 1/2" shorter 17* shaft, if there are no other significant differences, will factor into the 10 more yards I need I think as that is all the distance I want. Do other folks do this? I recall some folks move the shafts down a club number but don't recall the reason they do this or what it was called. Thanks for any comments on why this should or may not be a good idea. Thanks

Shaft length can affect the accuracy of your strike - the longer the shaft the more off center the same swing can be. One option is to use a shorter shaft length for accuracy. Why many pros have 44.5 inch drivers. A relative moot point since Titleist doesn't sell just the head. You'd have to take your chances on the used market if the head was authentic.

You would need to change the weight aprx. 5 grams to the head because you will lose 3 swingweight point per 1/2" shaft length decrease. The reason some players go to the shorter length shaft in the hybrid is to get them closer to the standard length of the iron they are replacing. The shaft will play a little firmer when Hard Stepping. You may want to demo a 17* hybrid vs the 18* HD model & compare them to your 19*, you may find out that the 19* actually carries the furthest. If that's the case you may want to look towards a 5 wood, the longer shaft length will help with the speed to increase the gap. I recently decided that when the new 915 fairways come out I will be going with the 3 wood & 5 wood in the low spin heads and stay with my 3-P in irons.
  4. T.B.,

The 17* lofts, on both the hybrids and woods, are becoming more and more popular. Many people fit into them well, as far as distance gaps, needs, etc..

The best thing to do would be to get a hold of your local Titleist rep to schedule a fitting. You could take a couple of your long irons, driver, current woods with you. That way your Titleist fitter could dial you into the perfect club(s) that would meet your needs. It's best to be fitted outdoors, so, if possible, find a Titleist rep who can fit outdoors.

Hope this helps. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

  5. Thank you all. Like the idea of shortening the shaft a bit. I will have to hit them both ways with a monitor to see what the results are relative to the small additional yards I need to gap.
