I got the same shafts in irons and wedges (KBS C-Taper), but honestly, I'm not sure if that was the right decision or not. I'm happy with the clubs and it looks nice, but since I've always played the stock shafts in my wedges, I always wonder if I did the right thing.

I'm sure that's of no help at all, sorry!

Maybe the best advice would be that if you're happy with your current wedge setup and if your short game is on, don't change unless you're sure about it. You could get fit and at the fitting compare your own wedge to one with the other shaft. Hit lots of shots.

My suggestion is to go with what feels right.  I use TT Dynamic Gold regular flex shafts in my irons but prefer a heavier wedge shaft so I went with the TT Dynamic Gold Tour shafts in a stiff since I get a better and more consistent ball flight on my wedges with those shafts.  I tried an iron with the same shaft and it wasn't good.  At the end of the day, the game is about scoring and having fun so go with what helps you do both.  Enjoy!

    Interesting Question Matt

I have been playing 714 AP2 6i- W with NS Pro 970 shafts since September. I originally had a 50 degree Vokey in my bag. When I moved to AP2s and NS Pro 970 Shaft my 50* Vokey felt very heavy in my hands.   I traded in the 50* Vokey and ordered a Gap Wedge to match my irons.

I currently play 54 degree and 58 degree Vokey wedges using their stock shaft.  I plan to change the shafts in my Vokeys to match my irons primarily because I continue to notice the heavier shaft weight when I am chipping.  For me, it is about feel in the chipping game.  I plan to make the switch next week.  I hope to provide an update over the next 30 days on how the change works out for me in my chipping game.  I hope this helps.

I believe this really comes down to personal preference and what feel right.  Since the wedges are such a feel club, this really needs to be the driving factor.  Personally, I play a DG Tour Issue X100 in my irons, but go all of the way down to a S200 in my wedges.

After talking to a lot of people, I realized many of them had different shafts in their wedges as well (some lighter and some heavier just depending upon heir personal preference).  I still had some reservations about having such a difference on the shafts until last year when I went out to Oceanside to get my wedges fitted personally by Bob Vokey.  When we started, we went through my setup and I indicated I was open to any suggested changes and even brought up the difference in shaft weights between he irons and the wedges.  When we were all done, I was still in an X100 in the irons and an S200 in the wedges.  Completely different setups for full versus feel shots.  The lie angle was even 1 degree different between my irons (1 degree flat) and my wedges (standard).  Mr. Vokey said that it was extremely common to have different shafts and setups for your irons and wedges.

Get with a fitter, try some different shafts, and see what sets up best for your and your game realizing there may be differences between your irons and wedges due to the different types of shots you are hitting with both clubs.  Good luck and enjoy the journey!

    Hi Matt,

    Thanks for the post.

It really is all player dependent. Some individuals like to keep a consistent feel and performance throughout the bag, while others like wedge shafts with a little more feel, like the S200. I can tell you that most individuals decide to keep the same shaft in their irons AND gap wedge as these clubs have similar functions. For the other wedges, I would focus on the feel of the shaft.

    Hope this helps.

That's a great point, Bubba.  When I am thinking about "wedges," I generally think about my 55* and 60* Vokeys and only play an S200 in these two clubs.  These clubs are most often used for less than full shots around the green where feel is so important which is why I like lighter shaft.  I play 4-GW in the AP2's and consider the PW and GW more of "irons" than wedges because I almost always use a full swing with these clubs.  For the same reason you indicate I play an X100 in the PW and GW (same as the other irons).
