I've been unhappy for a year by how I was fit at a BB store when I wanted to check a problem with a 910 driver and they felt an off the rack 913 D2 driver was the answer.  The local AFC was closed for weather at the time.  I went back to my AFC in late October to improve the situation.  We worked with the 913 D2, a 915 D2 and the 915 shafts.  Ended up with a 915 Blue R flex and a much improved performance, even on the 913.  At any level, the right equipment makes a difference. I won't stray from a trusted fitter again.

  2. Don, great points.  However, I would add that like any restaurant or doctor there are good one's and not so good one's...taking your time to find the "right" fitter for your golf game and a fitter that speaks "your" language while asking the right questions is paramount as you pointed out.  I would say though no matter where you go a good fitter is within everyone's reach...glad to hear you have it all figured out!

  3. I agree. If "you" don't feel comfortable with your fitting, don't hesitate to ask ANY questions, big, small, technical...I like to get to know my clients as much as I can. I make sure that every second is dedicated to the person that I'm fitting.

When the answer is stock/standard everything you have to wonder if there are other options.

    Thanks for the post, everyone.

Just wanted to say, as a fitter there were many times I suggested Std. loft, lie and length to individuals because it truly fit them best. We spend a lot of time determining what lofts, lies and lengths will help the majority of golfers so we can make those specs Std. I liked to tell people "it's stock for a reason".

    Hope this helps.

Nothing wrong with stock. My hybrids were fitted at Manchester this year with stock R flex S+ shafts. Picking a Stiff S+ for driver 9.5 had a hollow ring when as a miracle, that was the only LH driver on the rack at a large retailer. That my 28 year old fitter happened to mention he had the same setup should have been my first clue. At 64 and high 80's club head speed, I won't be growing into it. My local AFC worked with me to improve carry with a 2015 Blue R flex shaft after trying 5 shafts/flexes. 2 more degrees launch and 10 yards more carry. The fitter at the AFC isn't much older, but he focused on the best settings/visual carry - for me. I've had experience with a Tour Van, Manchester, and an Advanced Fitting Center to overhaul my bag. Everything except 2 wedges has been stock and none of it can be found off the rack. And I'd (highly) recommend all 3 over potentially steered to off the rack to move inventory.
