Titleist Driver -Lie Angle

  1. I own a Titleist 910 D2 driver with standard lie, and I am considering an upgrade to the 915 D2 driver.

Not being a consistent ball striker, I can see from the use of an impact label that the ball strikes run on a diagonal from the lower center and up toward the toe near the crown.  The dispersion is fairly tight so even the off center hits toward the toe are not that far from the center.  But that diagonal pattern leads me to wonder if I would be better off with a flat lie rather than a standard lie.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi Rich,

    Thanks for the post.

The lie angles on the driver can affect where you make contact, but they are designed more to affect direction of the ball flight. Usually adjustments to shaft length will help individuals ensure more solid contact. It is not a certainty, but when golfers hit their driver towards the toe, they may benefit from a slightly longer length.

Try to see a local fitter so you can try the different combinations.

Hope this helps and keep us up to date.

  3. Bubba, thanks for that reply.

Is it possible to have Titleist build a 915 D2 driver with a flatter lie angle?

I have read that the old wood drivers were shorter in length with a flatter lie angle, as little as 50 degrees.  Today, the lie angles on most drivers is just under 60 degrees.  That just looks and feels too upright to me when soleing the club on the ground.

    Hi Rich,

The lie angle of the driver can be flattened by .75 degrees. We can not bend the 915's beyond this.

Try some different length clubs as well. The effective lie angle of the club is flattened by 1 degree for every 1/2" the club is cut down.

Let us know what you find.
