i am interested in purchasing a 913D3.  I struggle with control off the tee with my driver, but have little issues with 3W and under. If I were to look into having my driver shaft shortened 1" to 44", are there any considerations I should take with regard to shaft torque, flex, and driver loft?  For the record, my club will have a titleist fitting day so I ak going to get fit in April but wanted to go ahead and ask the question.

    Hi Andrew,

    Thanks for the post.

There are a couple considerations to make when shortening a driver by 1".

    1) The driver will play stiffer. Anytime you shorten a club, the shaft effectively becomes stiffer and tighter.

    2) When shortening a club by 1", you need to make compensations for swing weight. If you don't, the club will feel very light.

Hope this helps and keep us up to date.

Does that mean I should be looking at a shaft that has more torque and higher launch since those will both be affected?

No necessarily, Andrew. There is no direct correlation between length and stiffness. I.e. taking a shaft with 4.0 torque and a mid kick-point and cutting it 1" doesn't mean it becomes a 3.5 torque with mid-high kick.

My best suggestion is to try the shafts at -1". Do not get fit for a shaft at Std. Length and predict that it will work at 44".

    Hope this helps.

I play the 910D3 at 43.75".  My club fitter had to add a lot of lead tape to get it back to D3.  I just bought a 913D3 and will have that shortened to 43.75 as well, this time I will order the correct weight to switch out, instead of the lead tape.  I went from not carrying a driver b/c I couldn't control it, to hitting over 75% of FW's over the past 60 rounds by shortening the shaft.  If you struggle off the tee, I also suggest the possibility of using a heavier shaft to help control tempo.  Just passing along what worked for me and brought Par 5's back into eagle range.

    Thanks for the info.

for anyone out there - if I were to order a 915d3 with the diamana white 70 stiff shaft and had it cut down to 44", what weight do I need in the head to make it a d3 swing weight?
