  1. I'm curious about thoughts on the nippon ns pro 850gh vs the 950gh in the AP2 714 head. They would be for my son, a 13/14 yo player who plays competitive tournament schedule.  index is 1.5 and driver clubhead speed is 90mph. Currently he has the AP2 710 head with graphite aldila proto 75, but will probably move to steel with next change.  I've noticed some of the better juniors in this age range with the 850gh shaft.  950 is slightly heavier, but looks like it may be higher launching.  Just curious what some of the club fitters might think about pros/cons between the two shafts.  Thx!

    Hi Bill,

    Thanks for the post.

In all honesty, how each shaft performs is completely player dependent. One shaft may be great for an individual, while the same shaft may not work at all for someone else. You are correct that the 950 is heavier, but with a lower kick point it should produce a slightly higher flight than the 850.

I would suggest seeing a local fitter with your son and determining how he can improve his launch conditions. The fitter will be able to narrow your search and give you some choices that will help improve flight.

    Hope this helps.

Hi Bill,  You don't say where you are located, but let us know and we can recommend a good fitter in your area that can help you and your son choose the best shaft.  We can also send both the NS Pro 850 and the 950 to the fitter for your fitting if they don't have it in their matrix.
