Best  wedge sole, loft, width, and grind for chipping.  Wedge chipping and full shots from fairway and rough.  Imagine tight, wet, wet lies.

    Hi Bill,

    Thanks for the post.

The right sole, loft and grind for chipping is really player and condition dependent. It is always best to see a local fitter and try different wedges to see which ones fit your game. With that said, typically individuals who play in very soft and wet conditions benefit from wedges with more bounce and wider soles (K grind, F grind). Vice versa, golfers who tend to hit chip shots thin, or play in hard and firm conditions, benefit from wedges with less bounce and narrower soles (T grind, L grind).

    Hopefully this helps.

Bubba, thanks. Which of the K and F grinds have the most camber, heel to toe? I already have the SM4 in 54/11 and 58/11. Am I already there? Bill

I did my own empiric assessment for a sand wedge that I would be best in a S grind, 54 degree standard length. Did a Tour Van wedge fitting and ended up with an M grind, 1/4 inch shorter, and 56 degree strengthened 1 degree based on my contact and divot pattern. There's not much difference, but you can also say close, but no cigar. There is value in a fitting.
