915D2 Shaft Length Question

I recently bought a 915D2 at standard length (45").  I am wondering whether I should cut it down a half inch.  Here's my story/considerations:

I was fitted in the Titleist Tour Van for my irons, wedges, and hybrid.  All shafts were fitted to me as 1/2 inch short and light, but stiff (e.g., the AP2 and Vokey shafts are Dynalite, the hybrid is Diamana 72g but interestingly NOT a shorter shaft).  I was not fitted for the driver specifically at the time.

Fast forward to my driver fitting a year+ later by my local club pro.  My launch and spin were too low, so we went to 915D2 12 degree driver with Diamana Red 50g stiff shaft, which improved my launch a great deal.  I am hitting the driver great, but am now wondering if I'd hit it even better if I had gotten it shorter.  Do I mess with a good thing or try to make it better for consistency throughout the bag?  Should I practice by choking down on the driver to see what happens?  Or is there a good reason that for a picker/sweeper like me the Tour guys didn't make my hybrid shorter like the irons?

Final thought: if I do cut the driver down, is that the equivalent to having ordered a shorter driver from the factory?  Maybe the swingweight of the club will drop, but I think all my other swingweights are in the mid-upper "C" range anyway, so the driver has higher swingweight than them to begin with. (Should I strive for swingweight consistency throughout the bag?)  Part of my consideration of messing with a good thing is having someone who is not the Titleist-factory alter the club.

Sorry for all the questions but geeking out on my equipment here.  Any help would be appreciated!

I have had trouble with the longer shaft lengths for a long time.  I always have my Drivers cut down to 44" playing length. I don't have a problem with any distance loss but I definitely have more control.

    I wouldn't suggest choking down.

If you have any issue with feeling that the SW is too low, you have the option to change the weight in the bottom of the driver to help with that.

I have a 913 D3 with a Whiteboard 72 X. I couldn't be happier. There is such a confidence in knowing you can just swing through the ball and know where its going. That's what you need to maintain.

Many pros use 44.5.  Some others OEM products are as long as 46.  You gain a little more speed with the longer length but many will lose some consistency. Being LH, when the Tour Van fit me for wedges, not all the same lengths were available as RH, so we worked with the standard but choking down.  I'd do the same before cutting the end.  If your accuracy improves and the distance is still ok, then you can cut it.  For swing weight adjustments you can replace the standard 9g.  I recently went with a 12 degree with 45" S+ stiff and it has been consistent enough to leave well enough alone.

I have a 910 D 2 that I play at 44.5 and you will need to use the 11gr weight. It is easier for me to control. All other clubs are .25 short. You could start at minus .25 with your driver and see how it plays .

    Darian,

If it's working for you why change? I personally have trouble with the longer shafts in the drivers as I am shorter and I don't  seem to control the club as well. I believe the longer shaft adds to club head speed and I just end up further in the woods.  Good luck.

Thanks for all the responses, guys.  I played it again yesterday and am driving the ball beautifully.  So if I can make center-face contact with 45", as the last poster says, why change it!
