I was at Golfsmith hitting in the bay. I currently play 714AP2 with DG S300 shafts. I hit an AP2 6i KBS C-taper heavy and I hit it about 160 average. The shots were pretty straight, but just seemed short. The weight was too heavy for me, but the stiffness was ok. Next I hit a 714mb 6i KBS fst tour stiff. I hit the ball 10yds farther and even more on line. I was averaging 170. I understand the hitting bays should always be taken with a grain of salt, but it made me wonder if I made the wrong decision with the 714 AP2 instead of getting the 714mb's. My initial decision derived from the thinking that AP2's will go just as far, but still give me more forgiveness. In the bay, I hit the MB better. Makes me second guess my choice and perhaps that I should have gone with the MB's like I originally wanted. Can anyone shed some light? If I put the KBS fst tour shafts on my AP2's, is it likely that I'll get a better outcome? Should I just go get fit for some MB's since those were what I initially wanted? I love the AP2's, don't get me wrong. They're great clubs. I know that everyone's bottom line advice will be to go to a fitter, but in this case, I already DID go to a fitter, and he never fitted me for those other shafts because I am a 23 handicap. It's hard to find a fitter who doesn't automatically categorize you off of your handicap and throw you into what they think you should play vs finding what really works best. What do you guys think?

My advice would be to go back to the store and demo the ap2's with different shaft options, compare them to your current ap2 and the MB's with the KBS shaft. You want to pay attention to the launch - spin - carry & dispersion when hitting on the monitor, their fitter can show you that info, however consistency of center contact is on you to determine, same machine - same ball, that should be able to tell you something. I purchased new clubs fitted with the Pxi 6.0 shafts and after playing them found they were too light for my swing (113g), so I'm heading back to the DG(128g) shafts for consistency & control over distance.

hey man hows it going my names bill im a fitter for the pga tour super store was a master club fitter at golfsmith. i can tell you off hand shafts make all the difference. if you are fitted by the correct person aka (someone with real knowledge) then it will change your game forever. dg s300 is a great shaft but is a horse of a different color compared to the kbs ctapper both are great shafts for the more aggressive swinging player but not for the majority of players. Go into your local store and talk to the people that are fitters there most will not know anything besides matching swing speeds to flex of shaft but there is so much more to it

That's the thing. I'm always hesitant when someone measures me based only on ss. How do you know someone is a good fitter before hand? You almost always gotta pay for a true fitting, or buy clubs. I actually signed up for a titleist demo day fitting at the place where I buy my clubs. I only had enough time to fit/check my irons and wedges. I'll actually be doing that later this month. If I can Id like to book a longer appointment to get my woods checked one more time too. Outside of that, I am set to get lessons. Probably won't mess with my club setup during the lessons. Reason I asked about shafts is because miz has their shaft optimizer, and it was pretty nice and got me a nice grouping on the impact tape. That's how we picked the right shaft. But as for titleist, the fitter I bought from told me straight away that it would be the same.

in any case, you gave up the lighter shaft (which added distance) for a heavier shaft and more accuracy, right?

i was considering the fst tour, but someone suggested the xp95 lite, which is a lot lighter than the dg s300's. Wondered if a lighter shaft would be easier to hit with less effort but still get good results?

also did you guys get fit separately for your wedge shafts? Or did you just take one step down from your iron shafts? I.e. S300 in irons and then s200 in wedges.
