Last year I decided it was time. For years I had been playing cally X-20 tour irons with 6.5 Project X shafts. (Yes i was fitted for those) I just never felt like I could work the ball and the irons just felt dead! So I started looking for a better feeling club. As soon as I hit the 714 AP2's I knew they were for me. I was fitted, and surprisingly most of my spec's came back the same, minus the telephone pole shafts. My pro suggested i get my grips built up with tape instead of getting mid size grips. He had his done like that and I really liked the way they felt. I'm 6'3 and I don't have overly large hands, but lets say they are thick! I trusted him and never really asked why I should go with regular multi-compound grips with the tape built up. So I am here. Does anyone have any idea why he would recommend it like that, rather than just putting a midsize grip on? I love them, there isn't a complaint to be had. I am just curious if anyone else has done it or heard of it and why.
Also, while I'm asking. Whats everyone think about me doing the same thing to my woods. I actually ordered my SM5's that way, just to be consistent. My driver, 3, & 5 are normal.
