Just a quick question ...  besides technique, what are the factors of wearing the heel of your glove out?  I have been told that many different things can cause it but I was wondering if grip size is a main factor.

If I have small hands and the grip is too large, it will tend to slip in my hand sometime during the swing ... hence the friction and ultimately the glove wears out.  What if the grip is too small ... will I then create too much wrist action and create a hook?  Will getting a grip that is 1/64" smaller than standard help in that regard?  How will I know if I buy the grip from a local dealer, say off the shelf at Golfsmith ... is it .580 or .600 core .. depending on the size of the butt of the shaft ... are those 1/64" smaller?  When they talk about "midsize" grips ... are those smaller than standard?  It's a little confusing when you are trying to regrip the clubs yourself.

I know it all comes down to comfort level but without having to go out and pay ungodly amount for lessons, I was looking for an immediate fix that I could do myself.  I have also been told that the grip should fit in the fingers and the last two fingers should meet the palm of your hand when gripping the club ... most of all is comfort level though.  Also, when I order my 915 I want to be sure to get the correct grip on it.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

In general, it is not holding the grip enough in your fingers. Very common for self-taught golfers - like myself for years. If you have a mechanical problem holding the grip, you may want to look at an undersize grip. A good fitter should be able to help with that. Although my experiences with most retailers on whether I should use a standard or mid-size, the answer is generally a shoulder shrug. That wasn't helpful. This site helped decide on a standard with 3 extra wraps rather than a mid-size. It's the only connection between you and the club, so getting it right can make a difference.

In a word YES!!!!  ......Seriously though it's not just grip size but material matters too. And your grip pressure matters too.. To be honest they only way to really know is trial and error.  The best way is to start with a new glove and new grips.. play five rounds or hit ten buckets of balls  in any combination check the glove ,make adjustments  from there..if you're  using standard grips  go up to mid size...if you're using mid size add a couple layers of tape...Sorry bro ,but it's all you can do trial and error. I've been playing almost 20 years , i started with standard grips ,went to jumbo after a few years because everyone told me since i work construction and have big hands thats what i needed, the last 5 or 6 years Ive been using WINN midsize with 2 layers of tape. it takes time be patient.....MADGOLFER
