Over the weekend I went to a local advanced fitting center for a session on Trackman to get fit into the 915 driver. The pro was very helpful and knowledgeable and did a great job. The problem was I just didn’t have it the day of the fitting. My dilemma is that the shaft that I was fit into comes with a hefty up-charge. I am having a hard time pulling the trigger on such a large purchase based on my worst numbers. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and would appreciate any advice.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Will,  I would call your fitter and let him/her know exactly what you have told us here.  Fitters understand that the swing can change and he/she can let you know the numbers on a standard shaft as well as an exotic shaft.  Let him/her know how you expect that your best or better swing would translate into speed, etc and they can talk you through what you can try.

    Will,

Boy oh boy, do I relate - I've struggled with that question as well, and I think it comes down to understanding the difference between your "A" game and your "B" game, and how often each one shows up at the first tee.  In my case, I decided that my "B" game needed more help, because I see it more often.  And since I was pleased with the results from my "B" game swing, I concluded that things would only be better with my "A" game swing.

In other words, a fitting isn't just about getting the best results out of the best swings... it is also about the quality of the misses.  Good luck with your decision!

Like what Cathy stated earlier, I would ask the fitter if he could double check your recommendations. I would let him know what has worked well for you in the past. I get the $$$ issue, you could also ask him if their may be some similar options at a lower price point. Previously I had a lower cost driver shaft tipped 1" to fit me, could be an option??? Check out some on the Titleist shaft matrix to see if they have similar bend profile, weight & torque

    Cathi, Kevin & Matt,

Thank you very much for the suggestions. I am going to "re-do" my fitting a little later in the spring / summer once I have had a chance to get my swing a little more consistent.

    Thanks for the input.
