My current driver goes sky high with a spin rate in the high 3000s. I recently got fit for a new driver and the best combination seemed to be a 7.5* D3 with extra stiff shaft. My launch angle was 13*, spin rate was below 3000, club speed around 110, and ball speed around 151. After thinking about it, I'm a little worried about forgiveness. Would going to an 8.5* D3 provide more forgiveness without sacrificing much in the way of distance or spin?

I would also consider the side spin numbers, (more loft = less side spin)I would be a little concerned with the fact that at 110 swing speed only producing 151 ball speed. Something doesn't look quite right with your fitting - a 110 SS = 160 ball speed (110/151= 1.37 smash factor, could be shaft or length issue). I would ask the fitter to help address this issue as your leaving a lot of distance in the bag!

I'm a higher spin player as well, and my recommendation would be the following:

    1. play a heavier weighted, lower torque, tour shaft

    2. move the ball up in your stance

    3. work on your angle of attack, as it could possibly be steeper than you realize
