Had my first ever fitting session recently.....track man and all.  I was underwhelmed.....it felt like I was being pushed to buy clubs....luckily my club pro stepped in and saved me.  He was cool as ice and knew I was frustrated.

i learned a good deal of info from the session but it seemed like my fitter was disappointed I was not a 5 handicap player that could hit 300 with a slight draw every time.

Everything seemed rushed.....oh well....I learned that I won't be purchasing new clubs....rather working on some mechanics.

Sorry you had a bad fitting experience.  The goal of any fitting experience is to evaluate your current set against new options and establish the best set for you. You should always leave the facility knowing more about your game with confidence in your set... or confidence in the new options on order!

From my own personal experience, I stopped going to retail outlets with fitting bays for similar experiences. I'm 30 years away from a 8.5 degree driver with an X shaft, and the 20-something guys fitting seemed to like what works for them. By accident picked a pro shop on a local course that turned out to be a Titleist Advanced Fitting Center. The fitter worked with me on swing faults with minor corrections and advised me not to change when a new club did not outperform my current model. Such a relief to have him selling service and not stuff. He has since become my coach and I've joined his club.

I agree with Ryan and Don. My fitting experiences have been illuminating and worth what I put into them. I'm in the process of changing out my old for new after my recent fitting at the McClean Center in Fort Worth. I learned a few things that are helping my game, along with the benefits of better fitting clubs.

I had one fitting a few years back where it seemed like the fitter lost interest when he realized I wasn't going to order clubs from him. He dialed me into a new fairway wood, which was my main reason for the fitting, but couldn't find anything [Calloway shop] that outperformed the 983K I was using. Later, another fitting opportunity with a png Tour van got me into a driver I played for 6-7 years and it was a big improvement in shot dispersion over the 983K.

The new 915D3 I've just put into the bag is producing BOMBS and I'm loving hearing my buddies and wife go "Wow". The new set of Vokey wedges are dynamite and I'm sticking flags and hitting my yardages. Irons are up next and I can't wait!

Sorry you had a bad experience, but don't let it dissuade you from doing it again if you get the opportunity.
