Need a little help... I was fitted at Golfsmith for the 915 driver last night. I was hitting both the D2 and D3. However, they didn't have the shaft or the 10.5 head I wanted in stock, so I had to special order it. (I'm a Leftie)  When I got the confirmation for the special order this morning, I noticed it was for a D3. I'm a 10.5 index with an average score of 86 and swing speeds in the 97-99 MPH range. (Usually play from the white tees at different courses in the 6,000-6,500 yard range)   I currently have a R9 Super Tri and a good drive is 250-260 yards, average is in the 235 range.  A slight cut is my go-to shot off the tee, but I have been able to draw the ball more over the last 18 months.  (I prefer the draw ball flight to get the extra yards)  I don't hit the ball very high compared to the better players in my group.  Should I stick with the D3  the sales rep ordered or should I have it changed to the D2 head?  I honestly can't remember which one I liked more in the store simulator.  The store offers a 30 day guarantee but the new club is not scheduled to ship until 6/17/15 and living in MN, by the time the 30 days is up, my season is almost half over.  I would prefer to get it right the first time.

Thanks for your help in advance,

    Pat

  2. Hi Pat,

Congrats on getting fit for a 915! I too am originally from MN (West Metro). It's nice to hear that the state has thawed out! We have similar stats as I'm a 12 index.

As for 915 Driver, you can't go wrong with either one. However, I started out playing D2, but now have the D3 as my gamer. Personally, I switched because I like the more compact shape at address, the deeper face, and slightly less spin. I feel like I'm a bit more accurate with the D3.

Get acclimated with the D3 and...If you're not 'feelin' the it, I can bring my D2 head for you to try when I'm home over the 4th of July. haha.

Also, Do you know what shaft did you get fitted for?

    Thanks,

    Kevin

    Thanks Kevin.

I think I'll stick with the D3 as I like the compact look as well. I went with the Mitsubishi Diamana S+ Blue 60 shaft.

  4. Confidence is so much a part of the game so I would decide which model you want visually and go from there.  Both are great heads...

I have a D3, I prefer the smaller club head.

  6. My guess, if the sales rep was paying attention to your spin numbers, is that he ordered the D3 because he saw lower spin compared to a D2.

The real test will be outside. I love the flight characteristics of the D3 for me. But each person has their own set of needs. Give it a go with the D3 and make the adjustment if you're not seeing the results you'd hoped for.

Enjoy! You made a great purchase!

I also have a D3, and I also prefer the more compact look of the head.

However, I certainly get more yardage with the D2.  Distance is not my problem. I like to "work" the ball and the D3 lets me curve it and alter trajectory more than the D2.

If you are looking for longer and straighter, go with the D2.  If in doubt, go with your "gut feel", both are great clubs.

Since the 915-D3 was my first fitted driver, I went with what the Titleist rep (and my club pro) recommended and I have not been disappointed.  I have a shorter than standard shaft.  I have more distance and consistency.
