I just recently switched to Titleist 913 woods from a different manufacturer.  I used to hit high trajectory fades with lots of spin due to the woods being used.  So I purchased the adjustable 913's with the Diamana white shafts due to their weight and also the D3 driver and Fd fairway wood.  My swing is very upright to I wanted to reduce spin.  Whats interesting, with less spin heads and heavier shafts, I am now hooking the ball which I have never expected would happen with these woods. I thought these woods would fade if anything.  I have tried A1, B1 settings, lofted up and still hook the ball.  I really like the feel and adjustablility of these woods but I need to figure out what's happening.  I know my mechanics are not perfect but I never had this hooking issue with any woods that I ever have played.  Any suggestions to eliminate this constant hooking?  Any thoughts of why I am experiencing this issue with these 913 woods?

Probably mechanics - if your chest is starting to turn before your arms reach the ball, the face will close. Either over swinging or the heavier driver is slowing your arm action. Try taking 15% off of your swing and see what happens.

Don, Thank you for the feedback. I tried to swing easier and it does make a difference but I lose a lot of distance. My question would be that I used the same swing with my previous woods from a different manufacturer and never had a duck hook. If I missed, it would be a fade or slice now my misses are always a hook. I tried all types of SureFit adjustments which have not cured the hooks when I swing hard. Could it be the woods are less forgiving and I am seeing the result? When I hit the sweet spot, there are no better feeling woods and I get great distance.

I'm relating my own experience - offering what I paid my coach for 2 weeks ago. A hook has both a side spin component (left for a RH) and a club face closed too far. The higher probability is mechanics - guys tend to use big muscles, hence the chest turning prior to contact. Also in play is playing catchup with hands and turning over the wrists prior to contact, over closing the face. A fast transition and a too weak of flex can have the head snap too fast and close early, as the alternate theory that it is the arrow and not the archer. Slowing down for drills to get back into a sustainable tempo and then starting to crank it back up will help. Accessing a good fitter for an evaluation of why this is happening would be my recommendation. My drill is to practice swinging an exaggerated line to the outside and keeping my shirt buttons facing the ball through impact. I've stopped pulling irons and added about a club length. Still fighting the tendency to over tempo driver and pull hook.

I glossed over the point that the Sure-Fit settings tweak the results as opposed to fixing major flaws. A duck hook is far beyond a Sure-Fit fix. Unlikely, but if there is a dramatic change in swing weight, this could highlight a swing flaw as well. If you have your previous driver, the 2 can be compared to see if the difference is more than a couple of points. Too light and you may be over-swinging and too heavy your hands may be late in your swing before you start turning towards the target. The grip weight and club length will all impact this as well. Changing vendors will highlight some of this. TM uses 46 inches and Titleist is 45 inches for stock drivers. They will feel different.
