So I am currently gaming the 714 AP2's with the Project X shafts ... love'em, the forged feel ... nothing better. I was considering the 716 AP1 this time around since my lack of time to practice and play really takes an affect on how consistent I need to be to hit the AP2's on a every day basis. So I was looking for any advantage I could get with the forgiveness of the AP1. But I am not sure about losing the feel of the forged iron.
My question ... are the AP1's close to the forged feeling this time around? Is the top line made thinner to look more like the AP2? What if I still wanted to keep the AP2 in the bag ... do they perform that much better with the Tungsten added to the clubhead? Is it possible to increase the lofts of the AP2 to match that of the AP1? With the stronger lofts, will that affect which shaft I chose to play? Will the launch angle change that much more with the increased lofts? What if I wanted to stick with the Project X line .... say the Pxi shafts .... a little lighter than the original Project X. Would those be a good option in the AP2?
I guess the only way to know for sure is to go hit them on a launch monitor. But not all of the fitters in my area carry all the shafts options. Then they seem to push you into a shaft that They carry just because they don't want to take the extra effort to get other shafts from Titleist. That has been my experience anyway. "Oh well this shaft performs just as good as the one you are looking at." Funny thing is they never know that I walk in with probably more knowledge about the shaft specs than they do.
Wish me luck in my quest for the correct shaft! Too bad I don't have a Tour Van following me around everywhere. LOL
