I was fitted for my AP1s in late-Oct. 2011 at a Titleist Fitting Studio in Northern Va. I was given "Std" Loft and Lie, 1" over NS PRO 105T shafts. From the time of my fitting until two weeks ago, I hit my irons predominantly left of target and had toe-ward imprints on the irons. I recently got refit at a non-Titleist facility and we found my lie was "Std" and my shaft length was "Std." with a 6-iron (37.5"). As a consequence, I modified my shafts to shorten them 1" and now my swingweight had changed dramatically from D-2 to C-3! I put lead tape behind the heads to increase swingweight, but the amount of tape is "massive" and I only have the s/w up to C-9. How did this happen? I understand the iron head was "custom-made" to adjust s/w to the shaft length of my initial fitting, and by shortening the shaft, I decreased the s/w. How else might I modify these irons to increase s/w? btw: my iron ball striking has improved dramatically; ball imprints more towards center of clubheads; ball trajectory is higher and distance a little less than before the changes.

If they decided that you need 1" long the heads would have to be lighter by 10-15 grams. That is a lot of tape only other option is tip weights that you could put in but requires pulling the heads.  I prefer tape option as you can put it where it helps you the most on the perimeter low . Just look at the new heads where they put the tungsten. They put it there for a reason. In my opinion as a fitter , putting a 10 gm weight in the tip of the shaft at assemble is  the wrong thing to do  look at any brand of clubs and all the emphasis on MOI . Redistributing weight to achieve a better ball flight. Lead tape is much better

Another option is selling them and buying another set std length
