Customer specs and swing weight impact

    My specs call for the shaft to be 1/4" shorter. Assuming I want to maintain a D1 swingweight, I have two questions:

    1) What will the swingweight be with the shorter shaft?

    2) If I chose to use Golf Pride Multi-Compound grips, what would happen to the swingweight?

    I have similar 'issues'. My desired spec is ; AP2 5-pw +3/4" long, +3 deg upright, multi grips +3 wraps. The set that I got from titleist did not match the 7 iron I was fitted with - the set were much lighter. I got the set checked by a club fitter who found that none of the swingweights matched! They actually varied from C through to D9 totally randomly  (9 iron was d9 but 8 iron was C yet 7 iron was D7).

    Hi Andrew,  Any set built at 3/4" or longer would have used lightweight heads.  If your fitter used a standard weight head and just added a 3/4" long shaft, it would be 3-5 swingweights heavier. 

    As far as swingweights, please take your irons back to your pro shop and have them set up a Warranty inspection.  We will bring them in and make sure all swingweights are within tolerance.  Have your shop ask for a expedited shipping label so that we can get it in here as soon as possible.

    I don't understand this, you said its light but the swingweight you mention D7 or D9 is actually quite heavy, irons set swing weight usually around D0-D2. You sure you got it right?

    The 1/4" will reduce the swingweight 1-2 and the Multi compound grips at standard size will increase about 1 swingweight.  If you are trying to maintain a D1 swingweight and that is the standard swingweight for the set using std components, it should not be a problem.  Just have your pro shop specify D1 on the order.

    Good rule is 1/2" = 3 sw  points  with all other variables the same.  1 1/2 sw less for 1/4" inch short. 

    Most folks won't notice it. That surprised me when KBS tour shafts came out that players coming from heavier shafts like Dynamic Gold and ProjectX to KBS where the build swing weight dropped 2-3 points at the same length and they didn't notice. I started putting tip weights in the end of shaft prior to assemble to get the swing weight back up but soon stopped doing it and let the player try the feel at C8-9. If they didn't like it lead tape put where ever you like on the head worked better than tip weights. 

     Most liked them better light.
