Stiff or Regular in my 915 D2

  1. I normally play a regular shaft about 50 grams, my swing speed is 90-93. I tend to hook as my miss.  I experimented with a stiff Diamana White 70 gram and found no loss in distance and maybe a little more and did not seem to hook very much at all.  Does this make sense as I did not think I was a 'Stiff' player.  Was this just a fluke playing a heavier stiffer shaft and getting good results? Thanks.

Swing speed alone does not define flex, nor does flex adequately define torque and launch. A fitter will evaluate your entire swing, including how much you load the shaft in your transition. Likewise, less shaft weight does not always result in a faster club head speed. So it is possible that a heavier shaft with less torque can improve your dispersion and possibly distance. The rack stock combinations only fit a large number of players, not the vast majority. At the cost of a new driver, no better investment than being fit on a range for maximum performance.

Don is correct.   I have been fit by a Titleist fitter twice.  Initially they looked at my swing speed and chose a lightweight stiff shaft.  After I hit a number of balls they both realized that the initial diagnosis was wrong.  I had a strong lower body transition that loaded the shaft a lot.  Point is that a heavier stiff shaft ended up working much better.  Eliminated low hook and resulted in a soft draw.
