Nothing beats hitting off of true playing conditions. Mats tend to provide a false sense of confidence as the balls launch higher and fat shots still look great. My local box retailer's Doppler doesn't measure smash factor. Even hosel rockets have a 1.4 smash factor and travel almost as far as well struck shots. You'll likely get a good fitting, but you won't know if it was the best. Especially if they decide the set in stock is just what you need.

I agree with Marc W.....If at all possible I would find a Titleist Regional or Advanced fitting center. I got fit for my Irons somewhere else and they are great... but I didn't get to try all the available shafts etc... so I still wonder how good my fitting was.
BTW I got these Irons before I knew about this board.... It would have been a no brainer if I knew I could get fit like a pro with Titleist.

I would call a pro at a local golf faculty and ensure they are a Titleist fitter.

Even if the club is private, the pro will usually fit non members as make the order for you.

In the last few days I was"fit" at three local retailers. The fitting numbers I was given were all totally different. I mean ridiculously different. I have decided to go to a Titleist rep for an outdoor fitting.

I agree with Mark W., get fit at an outdoor facility. Launch monitors can be set to add or subtract yardage and enhance or subtract spin. And if you're hitting into a net, you can't tell. If you're hitting down range and can see the ball flight, you can tell.

It is sort of hit or miss I think with club fitters in a retail store such as Golfsmith. I was in a similar situation and had gift cards to Golftown (Canada's equivalent of Golfsmith) and was looking for a set of AP1's. I drove a couple hours and went the to Regional Fitting Center and was fitted by the professional and took that information to the Golftown retail outlet to have my clubs ordered. I ended up paying a fee to be fitted (might have been negotiable if I purchased my clubs from the fitter) but when I am spending a large sum of money on clubs I want to last for a number of years, paying a little more upfront will be cheaper in the long run.
My experience from the Regional Fitting Center was great! Super professional and knowledgeable.
