Here's my question: If I am 3/4" longer than standard with the irons, should I also have my hybrids set up at 3/4" over the Titleist standard?

Here's why I ask: I have noticed that I may not have proper gapping between my 5 iron and my 4 hybrid. Currently playing 714 AP2's 7-PW, 714 AP1 5-6, and 915h 24 for my 4 hybrid. This spring I will get a new set of 716's, probably a similar set up but want to add a 19 degree 816h as well. While I hit my 915h 24 more consistently than my 714AP1 5 iron, when I hit both on the button I'm not even 10 yards longer with the 915h, or at least it seems that way. I have my APs set up at 3/4" long (I'm 6'5" plus) but I use standard length hybrids which are longer anyway, so the length throughout the set is pretty consistent. However, the standard lengths transitioning from the longest iron to the next hybrid have a bigger gap anyway.

    Thanks for the feedback

I play 1/2" longer irons, but I stuck with standard length for my wedges, hybrids, fairway woods, and driver. I'm not sure if that's normal, but for me it seems to work. Your best bet is try to find somewhere to demo a few different options. It's possible your length is off, but I would look more at the loft. You might simply need a stronger lofted hybrid. Depending on the gaps in your longer clubs, maybe you can consolidate a couple of clubs.

What did your fitter say about this?

I have not been fitted for irons since 2010. I went out to Oceanside. At the time the fitter said 1/2" longer, because I was 1 1/4" longer. He went with the shorter specs not because I didn't need the longer shafts, it was because I tended to make a better swing with the shorter shafts. He talked about how tall guys with bad backs (redundant if you ask me) tend to want to stand up through impact to protect their back because they know they have longer clubs. When Robert put me in a shorter shaft I kept my spine angle. In theory, really good advice. In practice, it put more stress on my back, so I compromised.

At the time, he did not specify a longer length in the hybrids.
