  1. Hi

I am a 12 handicap and have been fitted at my local golf club for AP2s and was hitting the seven iron with a very high spin rate of 7700 with swing speed 91. the ball was ballooning and losing 10m of distance. It didn't feel great.

I do require an extra 3/4 of an inch extra shaft length, but this wasn't available to test until the titleist rep visits the club. Is this likely to make a difference? Or is there another solution. I would love a set of Ap2s but only if it's going to be of benefit.

    Thanks

You might try a mid to lower trajectory shaft. Are you playing with graphite shafts? I never had the balloning problem but went to XP 95 shafts about 6 months ago and gained some distance with a more narrow shot dispersion with the lighter, stiff shafts

What shaft did you demo? I have the AMTs in 716 AP1 (higher launch, higher spin than AP2) +1" and hard stepped and have zero issue with ballooning ball flight. Swing speed is similar to yours

My swing speed is a a bit higher than yours but my spin rates were off the charts. Currently have the 712 Ap2 with S300's in them but ordered the 716 AP2 with KBS C-taper X stiff and it brought my spin rates down considerably.

    Hey PM

You could have a swing that could be too strong for this club. 7700 spin rate is kinda high especially considering you were probably hitting a range ball when you were tested. A premium ball will drive this number up much higher. Had you tried the 716 CB? On the AP1 and AP2 irons much of the weight of the club head is on the very bottom of the club head. This is by design to help get the ball in the air easier than say a blade type club like the 716 MB. The CB could very well be a better club fit for your style of swing and swing speed. Did you try this club?

  6. Yea I also just got fitted and purchased the AP2's. I was hitting them with an DG s300 when I should've been in a DGx100. When I did get the opportunity to hit a stiffer shaft in the ap2 it brought the spin rates down drastically. My ball speed at times with the 7 iron were reaching up to the high 90's so the spin rate could only come down so low. But I agree with the correct shaft will make a difference.
