  1. Looking at a new set of Irons. i am a 7 handicapper, 6' 3" i usually have a plus 1" shaft. Currently have miz MP plus 3/4" Project X rifle steel 6.0. i want a lower ball flight but improved distance.

Any thoughts out there? KBS Tour?, Dynamic Gold SL?

  2. I'm 6'4" and play a +2" shaft. I recently made the switch from TT X100 to KBS Tour X (130g). During the last few range sessions, I have noticed a lower, more consistent ball flight (which I was after). I would recommend getting two clubs reshafted with the shaft you are considering (I did the 8i and 5i for my test), and spend a few range sessions comparing the impact on ball flight. It will cost you a little extra in the long run, but I found it well worth the money to verify what the launch monitor was showing.

My specs are pretty close to yours. I am 6'4" 6 handicap and had the 712 AP2's extended one inch. My swing speed is high and my spin rates were off the charts with the s300 shafts I had. I just was fitted and ordered clubs from Titleist. I went with the 716 AP2 with KBS C-Taper 130 shafts however these are only extended 1/2". As close to rebar as I could get. My spin rates dropped significantly and my ball flight is slower as well. Lowering the spin rates alone gave me an extra 20-30 yards on certain clubs.

Hows your swing speeds and spin rates now?

I am also 6'3" and went with KBS Tour +1/2". I'm 3* flat though so our swings/fittings/planes are probably a bit different. The ball flight is noticably lower than my old Apex Pros or my recent tries with AP1s and Ie1s. Look and feel are fantastic, and distance is good enough for me. Also a 6 handicap.

If you are going to spend the money on a new set of irons, I would suggest that you get fitted. Suggestions from others is nice, but being the same height as someone does not mean that their clubs will work best for you. Go get the data. You will be happy that you did!

Very similar to all other posts. 6'3", 716 T-MB's 3 and 4 irons, 716 AP2's 5 and 6 irons, 716 CB's 7-PW. All KBS Tour, 130 grams, +1, 2* up, X flex, 130 grams. I have been using KBS Tour for 3 years now and I have no reason to change. they produce a consistent ball flight, great feel and performance for me...

Heh, my specs are probably at the exact opposite end of the spectrum... HCI 16, 5'2", -.5" length, 1* strong, .5* flat... 716 CB 5i-9i with KBS Tour 90 Reg Flex (mid to mid-high launch/spin)

I'm responding because I did quite a bit of research for the 716 CBs. Of all of the light shafts, the KBS Tour 90s were the most consistant/stable for my extremely long backswing (long in the terms of degrees of the turn, not in circumference). They also felt the best during the swing.

The KBS Tour V, Tour and C-Taper are all mid to mid-low launch/spin. The Tour V is slightly lighter (at 110g) than the Tour and C-Taper (at 120g). These launch/spin slightly higher than the Project X 5.5.

The Dynamic Gold and Dynamic Gold SL appear to have an even lower launch/spin. The SL is quite a bit lighter (at 106g) than the Dynamic Gold (at128.5g). These launch/spin slightly lower than the Project X 5.5.

My real advise is to get fitted, or at least go somewhere that offers different shafts to be tested with the same club head, if possible. Keep as many parameters as possible the same (club head, loft, lie, length, simulator/launch monitor, etc..) and hit the different shafts.
