    S,

I am getting fitted for AP1s, coming from AP2s. Thinking about bending the P a couple of degrees weaker so I can move into a 50/54/58 Vokey setup without too much of a gap, and eliminate the W wedge in the set, to preserve room for 5w or another hybrid. How will this affect playability, if at all? Would it make more sense just to have my 5-P 2 degrees weaker overall? Thanks.

If it was me I'd leave the PW alone, and go with 48, 52 bent to 53, and 58. Or I'd stick with a AP1 GW at 48 and get 52 bent to 53 and 58 Vokeys. That gives you a 5 degree gap which is pretty close to the 4 that Vokey advises. I play 712 AP2 so my lofts are a little weak, but I have a 48 degree Vokey instead of a PW. I use the 48 around the green a lot for chipping, and bump and runs. If you like to use you 48 for that I'd suggest the Vokey if not I'd suggest the AP1 GW.

Barring any hinderance in your swing, you should see more yardage from the AP1's than the AP2s overall. I have fitted players who went from AP2s to AP1's that needed the extra forgiveness they offer and some extra distance. I believe the PW of an AP1 is somewhere around 43 degrees. Bending it weaker would give you better gaps into your wedges but could leave a gap between the 9-PW.
