    Hopefully someone can help.

    I have a set of 716 AP2s with the DG AMT shafts that I ordered directly from Titleist at 1/2" short and 2deg flat. My 5 iron had a run in with a tree trunk, and I need to get it reshafted. Should I get a 5i shaft and have it cut down 1/2" or just have a 6 iron shaft which is 1/2" shorter than the standard 5 iron put in? When ordering directly from Titleist, do you cut down each shaft or just step down? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Bryan,

    You should set up a repair return with Titleist when they get the iron back along with the serial number located on the hosel of the 6 iron they will re-shaft the 5 iron according to the original specs of the set.

    I too would like to know if Titleist creates a 1/2" shorter set by installing the shaft for the next shorter iron throughout the set or if they actually butt trim 1/2" off of each shaft. Seems like you might be able to maintain swing weights by installing the shaft for the next shorter iron, rather than butt trimming.

    It depends on what you were looking for in the initial set, but they would all have been done the same. A standard flex fit is to use the appropriate shaft for the iron you are shafting. If you use a 6 iron shaft that is called hard stepping and the shaft will play slightly stiffer than using a 5 iron shaft in a 5 iron. You can also soft step and put a 4 iron shaft in a 5 iron.

    This stiffness change is equivalent to moving from an S300 to S400 in a True Temper shaft.

    Sending it to Titleist would give you the right thing, but you could also call them and give them your serial number to ask how they were shafted. Mostly likely they put a 5i shaft in the 5 iron.

    If you butt trim 1/2 inch off a standard length you will lose 6 swing weight points, however, if you order the same set from Titleist and specify the swing weight you desire they will adjust as necessary to achieve this swing weight or advise what swing weight they can meet.
