  1. I am thinking about getting some new irons. For the last 6 years I have been playing AP2's with Dynamic Gold stiff high launch shafts. I am now 57 years old and have lost some distance because I just can't get the club head speed I used to. I am a 2 handicap. I used to hit my 7 iron 160-165 yards but now it is down to around 145-150. I want to buy another set of AP2's but want to go with a different shaft, possibly graphite. I want a mid to high trajectory as I have a tendency to hit it pretty low. What shaft would you suggest? Thank You

Check out the True Temper XP 90 shafts. I am same age and just went through a Titleist Fitting Outdoors. I was fitted with this shaft with R300 flex. I played NSPRO 970 S300 shafts for the last 10 years. Just received my AP1 & AP2 irons with these shafts 2 days ago and waiting to get out on the range/course.

There are so many options for you. I strongly suggest finding a PGA professional and get to a fitting day.
  4. I am not a club fitter by any means but I true the new AP2s with the XP95 shaft. It had a nice ball flight worth a shot and it's a lighter shaft.

You should find a Titleist Fitting Center and go through a full iron fitting outside where you can see the entire ball flight. This time and effort will answer all your questions about shaft and club selection. Do not make a final decision until you and your fitter agree on everything. Then you can purchase your clubs and play & practice with a clear mind, knowing that you have the best equipment for you.

Your request for a shaft suggestion is probably one of the most common post on here. The problem is that none of us know anything about you and how you swing, so it is impossible to make a realistic shaft recommendation for you. So my best advice is to get fit by a certified Titleist fitter. It's the only way you can be sure you are getting the correct head/shaft combo for your swing. Check out the Titleist Thursdays web page and see if there is a location close to you that is offering the fittings (especially since they are free).

I am 69 and am having the same issue with my seven iron. I play 714 AP2s with XP95 S300 Shafts and went to a fitting on Thursday. Tried the 7160 AP1s and placed an order with the XP105 S300 shaft. Was hitting the ball very accurately 10 yards father than I was hitting my six iron with my AP2s according to trackman. I believe the Titleist fitter said I was getting 20 degrees of lift with the new irons. They do have a nice high straight flight. I am not into all these numbers, but he did said it was where I should be. I just know what feels good, goes straight and on my target that I shoot with my Bushnell. Cannot not wait til they get here and put them into play. The AP1s are sweet......and the lofts are a bit stronger than the irons you are playing and a lot less forgiving....at my age, I need all the help I can get....

I just got my T MB irons last week and they are awesome! I'm 64 and have also lost distance but I'm hitting these irons where I hit my irons 20 years ago! I have Kuro Kage graphite shafts. My AP2 pitching wedge was good for about 95 yards, the T MB GAP wedge was going 105 against a breeze Thursday at the range. They are wonderful and I can't wait to play tomorrow!
  9. It all depends on your swing speed. You might still have the swing to hit steel. When looking at shafts the lighter the weight the higher the ball flight and for slower swings the farther the ball will go. Do you know what your 7i swing speed is?
  10. Steel I would go with a True Temper XP90 or 95 regular flex of the Kuro kage iron shaft which are graphite. Unless your swing speed is below 70 I wouldnt go graphite but irons are investment clubs so over time the graphite may be the better option. Light the shaft higher the launch and spin

I fit my new ap1's with project X PXI . there lighter than the DG and easy to swing for me anyway. there a med launch. I sill use the DG on my wedges but if I get a new sm6 I might try it with the proX shaft. good luck and have a good season.

I'm the same age 8Hdcap and went through the same thoughts. I was fitted, ordered and received my AP2's with XP90 S300 shafts. Yardage increased and a softer feel. Titleist did an awesome job building the clubs and matching shafts

I recently had a club fitting session and I went from a stiff steel to a graphite A Flex Project X shaft. I am 69 years old and hit my 7 iron 145-150 yards now. Before the change I was hitting my 7 135-140 yards. Find a professional fitter in your area that uses the new doplar radar machines and find out exactly what is best for your swing. It is well worth the small sum if you really want to play your best.
  16. I have been playing graphite shafts for over 20 years after a mountain biking accident and love them. My current set of 714 AP2's has the Recoil shaft which has been a great option since you can get them with similar weights to steel. They are silver and look like steel so no one will ever know. In fact, I have let others try them and their reaction is interesting when I tell them they are graphite. Graphite is also much easier on your joints - I can hit several buckets with no side effects vs. 1 bucket with steel. Give them a try. Regards Sam
