    Hi everyone -

I've been reading a lot of club fitting forums and many of you hit the nail on the head, stressing the importance of going through a fitting.

I was wondering, do any of you have a good Titleist golf club fitting story to share with us? What did you learn during the fitting and what types of results have you seen?

This past October, I was fit for the 716 AP1 irons, 816 H1 hybrids and 915 D2 driver. Before I had these new clubs in the bag, I was playing with a standard women's length shaft, which my club fitter shared with me was about 2 inches too long! My consistency off the tee has greatly improved and my number of mishits has decreased (finally!) since the change.

I look forward to reading your club fitting stories!

  2. I am fortunate like many others in this community to have gone through multiple fittings at different types of Titleist Fitters including the Oceanside TPI Facility. While every fitting evolves into a new learning session I think one of the biggest take aways was from my last wood fitting where the tour fitter described the relationship with the Sure Fit Hosel and how we could adjust trajectory and shape of my driver and fairway wood shots by raising or lowering the effective loft of my club. For instance, if we raise the lie angle up it helps to create more draw vs. lowering the lie angle promoting a more fade bias.

Overall, the Sure Fit Hosel seemed so much more complicated but as we got deeper into the fitting session we were able to exactly dial in what setting was needed without worrying about things I thought would be important...easy as 1-2-3!

I am anxious to read everyone's stories....Thanks Titleist!!

I was fortunate enough to know a club Pro here in Ohio that I was friends with and ironically i happened to go to the course that day and they were have a Titleist demo day. I always wanted to get fitted for irons and the timing and price was great. I ordered the AP 1s and i love them. I already had Titleist 915 driver and woods and the fitter put me back on the monitor and adjusted those clubs so I was getting the best performance out of them at no charge. Im Titleist from driver to putter. #TT

I had been fit twice previous at retail golf stores. Both experiences resulted in the same fitting measurements and neither fitting seemed to help my game and left me wondering about the benefits of fittings all together. My game had hit a plateau where I assumed it would stay.

Then at a Titleist demo day I met a fellow named Doug while in the market for a three wood. Doug fitted me for a 915 3 wood and I saw firsthand what a proper fitting could do. So I decided to get fit last year by a Advanced Titleist Fitting Center. So after talking to Chris T at Titleist he recommended one near me. In November I made the three hour drive to Lexington Ky. and spent about an hour and a half with Brad where we went through the entire bag except for my putter.
Come to find out over the last 6 seasons I was playing with the wrong flex shafts, lies and lengths of my clubs. I had been struggling with control for 6 years. So I ordered a new set of irons AP1 716's, a new H1 hybrid and reconfigured all my hosels on my woods and Driver. My fitter also pointed out 1 swing flaw that he said I should work on. All said and done here is what resulted in the best fitting experience I have ever had.

I now attack pins instead of hoping to hit a green I expect to hit it, my distance has improved as much as it can within my given limitations. My fairways and green in regulation has greatly improved. Dispersion has also got much tighter allowing me to play from the short grass rather than the first cut. And my game is no longer on a plateau it is getting better and better as my scores are improving still. I can't express my Thanks to the fitters from Titleist and The Advanced Fitting Center in Lexington. I had previously only shot in the 70's once but after the fittings I have found the 70's this year alone 6 times and that's exciting to me considering the fairways and greens aren't even in good playing shape yet here.

Thanks Team Titleist !!!!!! You have changed my game.

I got into getting fit early in my (recent ) golf career. There was little connection with all the ads for new clubs and what I could try as a LH golfer. I owned nothing Titleist and by accident went to a pro shop that was an Advance Fitting Center. That got me into AP1 irons. Metal woods were an obvious extension. I've had the good fortune to get fitted for wedges by the Midwest Tour Van, updated irons at Manchester, and finally learned the value of a good fitter for a putter. The Titleist fitters have not just fitted clubs to me but have also helped fit me to the clubs. The companies that release new lines more often than even yearly have made year old inventory attractive on price, but I can see how the bargain hunters fight their clubs - hardly a deal.
  6. I am looking forward to my first fitting very soon at TPC Tampa, I'll let you know the results!
  7. Earlier this year I decided to take the plunge and get fit for my clubs. I was actually really interested in one particular iron from a competitor but I told my fitter that I just wanted the best performing club/shaft combo for me and to not tell me what I was hitting.

I went down the line of carts and hit about every head/shaft on the market. He would make some adjustments or change out the shaft and then hand me a new club to try. When I had the top performer on the cart we would go to the next manufacturer.

When he handed me the AP1 it was like everything just clicked into place. It was actually a pretty strange feeling because it was such a noticeable difference from the other clubs I was hitting. The shot shape changed and my dispersion was noticeably smaller. It was the first club that after about 5 or 6 shots I had to ask which one it was.

When I went through the rest of pack the AP1 was what I compared everything else to...and for me there really wasn't a decision to make.

The most interesting part to me was when I was getting the lie angle dialed in. It was crazy to see the ball direction change so drastically with the different settings.

I've never had a Titleist fitting. I plan to at some point this spring/summer as I will be looking at irons and driver.

Abby, great post. My story started in 2010. I was playing at my club with a guy who had all things Titleist. Of course, I was curious and intrigued. I pumped him with numerous questions. At the time, the tour fitting was a 2 or 3 day event. I can't remember. I think it was 3 days. I was excited. It was $4,000 or something at that time. Complete 14 club fitting and swag. Again, more saliva poured from my every pore, so to speak. He told me he got all the clubs after the 3 days and shirts, hats, gloves, balls. Everything Titleist. Then the clincher. He won the club championship after being fitted. I never played in a club championship. I was never that good. But I wanted that club champion Title(ist)! I contacted Andy at Titleist. I wanted the complete fitting. The time I was fitted the terms and conditions had changed. It was one day. Four hours. $500. What a deal!! I got fitted by Dino. Master fitter. He had so much patience with such a hacker I was. Long story short, I went from a 13 handicap to a 1.9 in two years. I beat the previous club champion in my first club championship tournament. The previous year he won by 17 strokes. I was 5 down after 3 days and 9 holes to go. Crunch time. I ended up beating him by 11 strokes on the back nine. I worked my tail off but more importantly, I had the completed, total confidence that all my tools were precision instruments custom tailored to me, my stroke, ability and game. There is no compromise in golf when it comes to one's tools. 14 employees working for you. I thank Titleist and the amazing opportunity they give to hackers like me to experience a tour experience at the TPI center in Oceanside. One thing I always hear when it comes to the amazing line of Titleist products: "Are they worth it?" My response always is: "Are you worth it?" #TeamTitleist!!!!

The best line I've seen ever about getting fit or buying Titleist... It's not if it is worth it, but are you worth it? I spend a couple of thousand on greens fees every year, so saving a couple of hundred $$s to buy old inventory off the rack doesn't make sense.

I like technology and use GameGolf to track the distances I hit my clubs. I had a 910 D3 that I won some years ago and a friend convinced me that the technology had improved, so I went to a fitting - boy was he right! The distance the monitor predicted for my old club closely matched what I was seeing in my tracking. What I didn't know was how high above optimum the spin on the ball was. After the fitter worked with various combinations, I ended up with an 915 D3 with lower loft AND 27 yards more of distance. Here, the monitor was a little off, my stats for the first couple rounds with my new driver indicate I'm averaging more like 34 yards more. Thank you Titleist.

I've been playing golf for 32 years now and have never been fitted for a set of clubs. I've made adjustments (lie and length) with rack sets and have my AP2's dialed in, all without a fitting. Someone who knows the game, knows their swing, understands what adjustments can be done to a club and their affects or outcome from doing said adjustments will do quite well. I'm a self taught single digit handicapper. That being said, I have my first driver fitting on May 12th at a Titleist Thursday event. I'm looking to seeing what the hype is with getting fitted. I'm going in open minded, but if it's anything like demo days, where they simply hand you a club and say go hit this and tell me what you think, I can already tell you that on paper I will prefer the 9.5 D3 with Rogue Silver X-flex. And if they have a D4 to try, I'll probably prefer that. We'll see and I'll report back with my thoughts.

I was fitted by my local pro...AP1 irons. Worked hard over the winter...hit a lot of balls, lessons. Have dropped from 8.0 to 5.0 in one month of golf in the MW. My playing partners have all commented on how my iron play has improved. Really hitting lasers, flight and distance are very consistent. Picked up club length with higher trajectory.

I went to Cool Clubs to get fitted and was able to hit the 716 AP2 and CB amongst all the other major brands. I was very surprised and delighted by the shaft selection that they had to offer. I tried the KBS C Taper, Tour, Tour V, Nippon Modus 120, and Dynamic Gold X100. There were definite winners among all of the choices. I was fitted for either the CTaper X and Nippon Modus 120 X. I never thought of myself being in the X flex range, but apparently it was cutting down my dispersion quite a bit with minute losses in height and a slight gain in distance. I was very pleased with my fitter and came away with an amazing set of irons that I know will stay in the bag for a very long time. Unfortunately I did not pick the Titleist irons, but I was fitted for the 915 Fd 3 wood in the Diamana White Board in Stiff. (Even better that it was an OEM shaft).

For me, it was trying to find shafts that would fit me very well and find a club head that compliments that shaft the best. Now I have a variety of shafts that I know will fit me and I'll take that with me until I get my next fitting, which I don't foresee for a few years. After this experience, my days of buying clubs off the shelf are over.

I was fortunate enough to win the Oceanside Experience Sweepstakes in the fall of 2014. I was fitted at TPI in Oceanside...what an experience. Not only was everything fitted to perfection, but through discussion of the types of courses we have in Wyoming and how often we have to play in wind, there were significant changes made in my club set up. Driver loft went from 9.5 to 8.5, added a hybrid and another wedge. Truly one of the single best things that could have happened to my golf game. I know now that if the ball isn't going where I intended, it isn't the equipment.

I went to a demo day on April 13th and got fitted for a 915 and some AP2's. Surprisingly, the fitter didn't put me into anything that I would not have likely chosen on my own - 915 D2 or D3 (I prefer D3) with Aldila Tour Green Stiff & AP2's with DG S300. All Standard length. What surprised me or what I at least found interesting is that he adjusted the lie on the driver .75* upright to combat my slice and recommended the irons adjusted 2* flat. It never occured to me to use the lie angle as a means of correcting errant shots like he did with the driver. Ultimately though, I decided to hold off on any purchases after further club testing with a local pro.

We determined that my money would be better spent on range time and lessons to get the driver working right as I am constantly raising the handle at impact and striking it out of the heel or leaving the face open. When comparing center strikes, I can achieve similar numbers with my 905S even though it tends to fly a bit lower compared to the 915.

I have been golfing now for about 24 years, but always with quality clubs that were bought off the rack on sale. In 2014 I drove down to Sacramento (about 2 1/2 hrs) from Reno for a club fitting session with Brian Eilders for new irons. He had an hour to kill so it ended up a 2 hour fitting/lesson session. What a great guy. Very informative, and gave me a few swing tips that really helped out. I wasn't ready to buy yet so he gave me all the specs for a new set of 714 AP1 irons, and then told me he works at Brockway, about 25 minutes from my house. So I drove 2 1/2 hrs back home. Last year I contacted him at Brockway to order the irons but wanted to go thru the fitting again just to be sure of what I was getting. Buying new clubs is a big expense for me so I wanted to be sure. I think we went thru 6 different shafts and various lengths, flexes, and lie angles before determining that the original fitting was still the best. Then he wanted me to try the KBS shafts so we went thru 4 more shafts, which was a good thing because I ended up improving my numbers by a bit more. This time I placed the order. I was shocked at both fittings as to how much difference a good fitting made in my swing, but the biggest surprise for me was that my consistency improved remarkably. I had serious injuries to both of my legs in 2001 that prevented me from playing for 2 years, and still hampers my game, but with the new clubs I have found that the overall improvement in shot making and consistency makes the game much more enjoyable. I can only imagine what a good fitting would have done for my game before the injuries. If you're serious about the game, take some lessons and get comfortable with the game, and then get fitted. It is well worth the expense and will make the game much more enjoyable knowing that you have clubs that match and enhance your abilities. Also, don't injure your legs......there an important part of your game. And as far as putting, I have no advice!!!
