  1. I love my AP1 714 irons. However, they are 1 club shorter than My TM Burner 1s. I am extending my AP1s 3/8". This will probably give me a few more yards but lofts are still a little weaker than the tms.. Just wandering if Titleist plans to ever jump on board with strengthening lofts? Hey Bob! My new AP2 are two degrees weaker than my old TM clubs also. I remember watching an interview with one of the club designers I believe, and he mentioned the technology they were using, more tungsten if I remember correctly in order to generate more speed off the club face, rather than just making the lofts stronger. In my case, it's stressed solid impact knowing I can't get away with mishits like I might have with with my old clubs. Can't provide any insight on what future clubs will be like, but hope that helps somehow. Cheers!

    Hi Bob,

I think that Titleist has already made the AP1s stronger. I've been playing the 2008 AP1s for the last several years but bought some new 716 AP1s this spring. In looking at the specs of the two versions the new ones are stronger. For example, the 2008 7i is 33* and the 716 7i is 31*, and the 2008 PW is 45* while the 716 PW is 43*. I can't speak to the TM's and their lofts so I can't explain the loss of distance. I don't know if Titleist will make the the next AP1s even stronger or if they will make the other irons (AP2, CB, MB etc) stronger. Hope this helps a little. Fairways and greens.

  4. The 716 ap1 irons are 1 or 2 degrees stronger than the 714 ap1 irons. I don't know if they will continue to strengthen the lofts on future models or not.
  5. Thanks amorrow, Mark F, and N Allen for your comments. I found out , after my first post, that the new AP 1s and 2s are stronger. However; as a follow up on extending my shafts 3/8" and fatter grips..(Lamkin Crossline Oversize) I'm elated with the results! More distance and super solid feel. Shot 78 Saturday, which is pretty good for me. I'm keepin' 'em!

Just for my education, why would you want stronger lofts ? If you can't reach your target with a 7i, use a 6i. The number on the club doesn't really matter, its the distance you hit each club and matching the club to the distance.
