    Hi there,

Went to a fitting this week and was fitted for a set of AP2 irons :) Part of the fitting was going flat with the lie and strong with the lofts.

My question is what effect each of the following has: - lie flatter: shot curvature? impact on face? - loft stronger: bounce? spin?

Also, does anybody have experience with strengthened lofts? Not sure if I should go ahead with the 2* strong through the whole set or try maybe 1* strong in P and 9 for a different transition into the wedges?

Also, what gap do you guys have between your AP2 PW and your gap wedge? I feel like a 4* gap is too big due to the different technology / head configurations between AP2 und Vokeys..?

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Flatter lie angles could produce more fade shots.
Stronger lofts could produce more distance.

However! This is compared to standard specs and a standard spec player. If you are fit for this then it means these are YOUR standard specs most likely. I would be free to adjust the lie angle to one that fits your swing. However when it comes to lofts I try not to play with these too much, one degree at most...if at all, with my irons. (Wedges are a different story such as your 52, 56 etc...)

For my set of standard loft 716 AP2's, I elected to go with 52, 58 and 64 wedges. So I used a 6 degree gap but I do not feel a 4 degree is too much.

You could add the AP2 gap wedge, I had it for the 714 model.
  4. I would agree mostly with Chris92009, in that I would not adjust the loft too much there is a 3-4 degree difference between clubs for a reason, although it can get as high as 5 in the wedges. I am 5'6" and standard length clubs are approx. 2 degrees toe up, which promotes a right to left ball flight, I found I was aiming 20 feet to the right on 100 yard shots with a standard setup. Lowering the lie angle by 2 degrees brought the club through impact much more level, thus promoting a straighter ball flight.

Flatter lie angles don't necessarily mean more fade shots. While for someone with a certain swing it may but it could also help another in a different way just like Chris says, this could be standard for you.

As far as degrees go, I would get fitted for wedges as well. For instance I have the AP2s but cut them off at the 9 iron and went Vokey for 46-51-56-61. Mainly because I didn't like the AP2 PW hitting into greens but I also felt I could hit a variety of different shots with the Vokey.

I used to have my irons set 2 degrees up & 1/4" longer. At that point that was my swing. I had a normal straight ball flight. The last fitting I had done. My stance at address & swing had changed so now I use a standard lie & length AP1 712 irons.

As for wedges I use 46, 50, 54, 58. I like the 4 degree separation. I wouldn't change loft except as stated earlier no more than 1 degree.
