I am thinking about trying a steel shaft in a hybrid. I play DG S300 in my irons and was thinking that or the S400 to go in a #2 or #3 915 hybrid. With that said these hybrids play a full inch longer than their iron replacement and was wondering what length they would play to with the DG shaft in it while still keeping a consistent swing weight in the D2 range. Would it be possible to play an 18 deg hybrid more to the 39.5 inch range with a DG shaft with a good SW?

Why do you want a steel shaft in your hybrid figure most of the time your hitting long shots down the fairway with it. I would think you can count on one hand how many shots your hitting to the green
  3. Wendell, I would not consider the route you are looking at....

Most professionals and better players play a shaft in their hybrid that is far lower weight than their irons. You are actually considering adding weight to the shaft!

Thus, if you have to go the heavier weight route I would consider a GD Tour AD Di-105 Hybrid graphite shaft or Aldila RIP Phenom 100 HYB graphite shaft. This is in relation to your 125-134 gram DG S300. I do not think you will be disappointed plus you can keep the clubs at D2 if you like.

    Grindelwald,

For which reason do you considering adding weight to the shaft on your hybrid?
To me it makes no sense and you will surely not hit it any further

If you want to have a steel shaft on a longer club, think of taking a 712U or 716 T-MB, which are something between an normal iron and a hybrid

The Diamana D+ 90 shaft has a similar flight profile to DG S300. If you are looking to stay with TT Dynamic Gold, I would consider the SL S300 to match your irons. SW - typically 9 grams shaft weight adds 1 sw point, could be 50 gram difference or 5 points. SW Length 1/2 = 3 points or -1" = 6 points Don't overlook the overall weight, you may be creating an unbalance between your 3 wood - 3 iron gap

Go to a fitting and try the 816h1 19* with this shaft Fujikura Motore Speeder HB 8.8 Tour Spec.
    Flex: S Weight: 86g Torque: 2.5° Launch: Low/Mid

I also have the 915h 18* with the Aldila Rogue Black 85H S 40.5" shaft
Flex: S Weight: 88g Torque: 2.8* Launch: Mid

I play my 816 at 21* and can launch both of the hybrids. The 715 is set at 16.25* and I cannot imagine having steel in the head of that club. These two shafts are awesome. I wanted the Rogue Black in the new 816, but my fitter had me hit both and the new Motore Speeder is much longer and straighter it was hard to go with the Rogue, although both work extremely well. I will be 70 in three months and hit the 715 about 210 off the tee and the 816 around 195. I play from the Senior tees and these are my main clubs off the tees. Hit them well of the turf also but a few yards shorter. l use my driver and three fairway on occasions during a round. Just food for thought.
