  1. I just purchased a new set of 716MB irons. I'm curious what effect bending the irons 1 or 2 degrees strong would have on the irons playability. How noticeable will the difference in trajectory be and will distances change?

  2. It would decrease the bounce on each club, not a good idea, as well as it would cause the ball to go farther. The trajectory, depending on your swing, should be flatter.

What are you trying to achieve? This is a dumb question but were you fit for them? If so why mess with perfection.

Yes, it is possible to bend the irons 1-2 degrees stronger, but by doing so you would be reducing the effective bounce on the clubs. This could cause them to dig at impact, and no one wants that. Yes, it would make the clubs a little 'longer' (with a lower ball flight), but it might not be worth it, especially if you already take a divot.

For Dave N: the reason people usually want to bend MBs stronger is because they are more traditionally lofted clubs, and no one wants to hit 7 iron when his buddy carrying TM irons is hitting a 9 iron.

For NYonce: Don't do it. When your buddy asks you 'what you hit there?' just answer "I hit my 150 club". His lofts are artificially jacked up, so his "9 iron" is really a 7 or 8, anyway. It's better to -control- your distance, consistently, than to just have more OF it.

When you hit it 140 with a 5 yard cut, and cozy it up to the tucked right pin behind the bunker, what does it matter if you hit 7, 8 or 9? All that matters is you are pin-hi putting for birdie, while they are long and left, or short-sided?

I couldn't agree more, they are a thing of beauty but also of art, it'll change the effect the way the club goes through the turf, I've lost some distance using these because I was hitting the new T-MB which 3 iron went a mile, but the 3 iron in the MB's is what dreams are made of, way easy to hit and launch, I wouldn't want to mess with it, that being said I did increase the lie up 2 degrees for my swing:)

I think it depends on the player and his swing. When I was fitted for my 714 AP-2's it was the Titleist fitter who suggested we go 1 degree strong, but it take very little divot. I think that makes a difference.
