Unsure of my fitting

  1. Hello guys, I know someone here can help me out. I have been playing golf for about 3 years now and I love the sport. The best I've shot is an 88, but I'm mostly in the low 90s. My play is really inconsistent. A couple of years ago I went and paid $50 for a club fitting at a place called golf USA. I was really new to the game but I expected something different than what I got. I was expecting to hit multiple clubs with different shaft flexes, grip sizes and so on. All he had me do was hit 7 balls with a 7 iron, he had me hold a midsize grip in my hand and that was it. The whole process was about ten minutes long. My specs were oversize grip, stiff flex, +1 long and 2.5 degrees upright. My question is, was this a proper fitting session? Is this how they normally go? How does he know my driver specs if I only hit a 7 iron? Please help guys.

    Thank you

I'd recommend signing up for one of the Titleist Thursday's if they are in your area. I went last week and it was a great experience, especially if you want to hit all of the latest Titleist products. If you want something even more involved, a friend of mine got fit at a place called Club Champion. They fit you for every one of your 14 clubs, not by woods, irons, wedges.

A proper club fitting should have you hit multiple club head types and multiple shaft set ups. A good fitting should take an hour or more if you are doing the entire bag. Each club type creates a different swing so you should not have your entire bag set up based on one club. In my case, I have std woods, +1" and 2 deg up on my irons, and +1/2" on my wedges also 2 deg up.

Hope that helps you find the right clubs for your game.

You got the short order (or a simple basic fitting) of a fitting, like Christian said a good & proper fitting should last around an hour or so.

If you can't find a Titleist Thursday near by. Look for a Demo day at an area golf club in your state. There they will go thru the entire process of each club including wedges, hybrids with all the latest Titleist equipment. Usually the course wants you to reserve in advance.

You can find those thru the Titleist site under the Clubs tab then fittings (I think that's correct) I've been to 2 of them in the last 5 years & both times it was a solid hour of hitting & tinkering.

Good luck in getting fit to lower your scores
