So as I am considering getting fitted for clubs a few questions came to mind and hoping the community can answer them for me:

Once I get the specs from the fitting could I have my existing clubs revamped to fit the specs?

Most places charge for the fitting but what does the cost get me? Just the specs or some of the actual fitting of clubs?

Thanks for clarifying for those that have participated in fittings before or do that professionally.

If you go to a "big box" type store, even if they charge you for the fitting, they usually take it off the price of the clubs IF you buy them there. IF you go to a Titleist Days fitting, I've never been charged and many times they are held in conjunction with the Pro Shop where held, and in some cases the Pro may offer a small discount, or upgrade or small bonus when you order with him. Getting Titleist clubs that are fit for your physique, your swing style, speed, and launch will definitely be worth it for your game. Could you have your old clubs fit to those specs? Maybe if it was found they were too long or something and otherwise came into what was deemed best for your game. But usually they are taking the style of club (irons a game improvement, muscle back, cavity back, etc.), and trying different shafts, with different flexes, steel, graphite, loft, etc. IF the clubs you have were on spec, they'd tell you. Take the time, check the Titleist website for something going on in your area.

Sometimes the conversion is not the same from club model to club model, so you can't apply the same specs from one club to another, but sometimes you can. The charges include at the very least the specs that you can take with you or have the Titleist rep use the specs to order your clubs. Not sure by the exact phrase, "just the specs or the actual fitting of the clubs." Hope this info helps.
  4. I suppose it depends on where you go for your fitting. Some places will spend an hour or more determining your club length, lie angle requirements, shaft optimization etc. I'm sure some places do a lot less, but some research prior to scheduling should help with that.

As it relates to your current clubs, that depends on what they are and what your specs end up being, and how much your willing to spend on improving your current set. If you end up finding out the shaft is all wrong for your swing, and you need a 3+ degree lie angle adjustment it could get costly and or be a risk to damage the clubs. (Cast clubs are more prone to breaking during the bending process)

A good fitting will start with your existing clubs. In my case with a 913 driver that was poorly fit, a new shaft in my 913 was almost the equal of a 915. You and the fitter will determine if reshafting will be a reasonable alternative. The fee will be based on the number of club types being fit. Many fitters will waive the fee based on the amount being spent for new equipment. There are limits to updating your existing clubs. The forgiveness will not be the same. Titleist Thursdays, if near you, give you specs after the fitting.

Mate you can get your current clubs adjusted (lie, loft, length and maybe even a reshaft) but It's fair to say, if you weren't fitted for your current setup the advantages of upgrading will probably be worth the cost. Some places can do adjustments, but it depends on you. Your stuff could be perfect already!

Great question. I always see other TT Members recommending fittings but when I went to my local Titleist fitting location he lost all interest in helping me once he realized I already had clubs. I tried several shafts on my own for my 913D2 until I found one that I played well with then sold the others online. Now, I was fitted for a driver years ago so I used those specs to narrow down my search this time around but I seem to recall that cost included the adjustments to the club. I would really love to get my 714AP1's fitted though, I just wonder how accurate it can be since I don't seem to swing the same consistently. Lol
Good luck and please share your experience when you are through.

Mr. P - love the Orioles - still have my Terrapin Titleist hat. Check for a local Titleist Thursday. They'll give you more respect. I might have to pay my pro for his time if/when I don't buy, but he has suggested on occasion that the latest isn't an improvement. But more of his income comes from lessons, not selling merchandise.

Hi Don, Unfortunately I missed out on a Titleist Demo day about 5 minutes from my house this spring. I may take the day off work and hit a Titleist Thursday next week. It's about 2 hours from me but I'm sure it's worth the drive. Great season so far for the birds hopefully the terps football team will have a great season under the new coach.
