I'm 78 years old and this is my third year playing with 714 AP1s with Xp95 shafts. I loved them for the first two years. Now they are feeling heavy especially on the back 9. I'm thinking about going to 716 AP1s with 65 gram graphite shafts. I'm trying to decide which 65 gram graphite to get. The Kuro Kage or the Recoil. I welcome input from anybody out there who has experience with either of these shafts.

    Norm,
Best suggestion, work with a fitter to see which graphite shaft works best for you.

    Norm, I agree get fit!
  4. Sir...I can't speak to the Kuro Kage, but I did put the Recoil 95 in my bag this year. I went from a Nippon steel shaft to the Recoil. I like the change. I have found that it is a consistent shaft, each shot performs as intended. I get the performance of steel with the benefits of graphite. I do like the weight. I have found that my swing remains fresh as the round goes along. Of course, getting fitted is the way to go, but I think you wouldn't be disappointed with the Recoil.

    Enjoy!

In May I purchased the Titleist 716 MB 6-pw and the T-MB 3, 4 and 5 irons with the MRC Kuro Kage TINI 65g, "A" shaft. I had previously been using the Nippon NP Pro 970 regular shafts in my old set. Like you, I could not find a lite enough steel shaft and my fitter highly recommended I go graphite. I hit it higher, longer and with greater feel. You and your fitter will figure what works best for you. I am 73 years old and very happy with my purchase.

The KK will be available. You can check ahead with your pro shop. They can get the recoil on loan from Titleist if they don't have in their stock.

First off, congrats on still being so into your game that you're posting on the TT forum and still loving the game at 78! As for the shafts, I don't have any personal experience, but we saw an immediate improvement in my buddies dads' game when he went with the Kuro Kage graphite. He hit them higher for sure and said it was a lot easier on his hands (he has bad arthritis). Hope that helps and good luck!

Have heard great things about both, may want to hit both on a monitor to see which feels best and creates the ideal ball flight for you.

In the same effort- to lighten the shaft, I had also wanted to change to graphite shaft for its light weight feature. But I have found "Zelos 7", the lightest steel shaft currently available, and had them installed in 716 CB and 716 T-MB. I couldn't be happier. Also, just recently, I read here that they are available as an off menu option in regular or stiff flex.
