  1. I play max 6 times a year but want to change that - hence my handicap of 26. I can vary from a few pars & bogeys to 9s & 10s in a single round!

I recently had a fitting from a renowned UK club maker & fitter (who is not affiliated to any brand), who assessed that my clubs need to be 2 to 3 degress flat - I said initially that I was looking at the AP1 - the fitter said that as the AP1s are cast, there's limitations to how far they can be bent, and I should opt for the AP2 as they are forged. My concern is that I think I need the extra forgiveness and distance that the AP1 would give me, and that AP2 are aimed at low to mid handicappers. My aim to to get down to 18 ish in a year or so, but that just be a step too far.... I did go to an authorised Titleist supplier prior to this for a fitting, and they told me I was standard spec in every aspect - basically what they had on the shelves...I am very confused!

    Any advice greatly received. Thanks

  2. The AP1's can be ordered from Titleist at 2 Degrees Flat (Just got mine in a few weeks ago). I had played 3 degrees flat for years, but found that 1/2" short and 2* Flat produced the perfect turf interaction.

    Hey RW,

Your on a noble quest. Your journey will be filled with joy and let down but enjoy your trip. Regarding your AP1s, they are very forgiving and I highly recommend them. I personally do not see any reason not to consider the AP2s though no matter what your handicap. I play with a 2 handicap and I love my AP1s. I tried both of these clubs and found that AP1s outperformed the AP2s. They are the best clubs I have found for getting out of the rough. So my first recommendation is to throw out any preconceived notions you may have about golf club selection. You will find that as you get better, particularly as you do whenever you are taken lessons which I highly recommend, your clubs may need to be adjusted from time to time so the AP2s would be a good idea for you. Golf lessons by the way will easily get you to an 18 handicap you desire and then some. Ben Hogan once said that most anyone with a modicum of athleticism should be able to break 80 within a year with the proper guidance. So I will look forward to reading your post soon that you have broken 80. All you will need are patience and determination.

    Good luck with you quest.

    Regards,

    DV
